Hey folks, what would be the strongest mounting point for a roof rack, bolting through the crossbars on the top of the roof or mounting on the angled crown part. I can walk on the roof as it is and it doesn't bend much at all. There won't be too much weight on it while driving around, only while parked (aka me walking around and sleeping on it). Also does anybody have any pics of how they mounted their racks?

I could post up pics of where the factory one mounted on my '87, but I have no idea how strong it was. I do believe just by looking at the location in the pics, and knowing where the reinforcement beams are from redoing two headliners that the mounting points line up with the reinforcement beams. Let me know if you want pics.

Are you going to be building a rack?

Yeah I'll be building a rack, it'll cover from the start of the 2nd door to the back, so about 8' long. My Burb already has the screws for the factory mount still in it, but I would still double check to make sure I was on the crossbars.

So just the crossbars will be alright for what I'm doing?
