I was wondering if there were any folks in here that have made some kind of roof rack platform to hold a tent on the roof of their truck? I want to be able to pitch my tent on the roof of my truck for my road trip home, as I may run into bad weather on the way home (snow) and don't feel like pitching it in muddy snowy ground. It can be simple or some kind of fold away style, as it will go on the roof of my Yukon and my tent covers about 10 feet on a side with the guy lines and whatnot. Actually, if I do it right, I don't need the guy lines, I can design mounts to hold the rain fly. Any help? Thanks.

Since nobody replied over here I will

I have looked and looked a RTT the price is what is killing me.

I need a big one cuz of my family, have even thought about two

When I do get one I want to mount it on my trailer and kind of build a camping trailer.

There was a guy selling one out here who had done that built a platform out of plywood mounted it on a trailer and put his tent on that.

I have also looked into a hammock tent really cool and you don;t have to worry about the ground can't find the link or I would post it.

I think you can find the smaller versions of the RTT alot cheaper then the $3000 or so in the neighborhood of $600 but the only sleep two which would work for you. I would go that route if I was in your situation.
