Roof racks...love them or hate them? I have PICS also!

Made that one myself, Hooked it to the back bumper and a bar off the frame, so 3 or so guys can stand on top easily. Takes two guys to take it on and off and four bolts. Pretty handy actually. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Want to build more??? that would work great with my soft top

looks like it would be a pain to get the top off while thats on there

Fark, you build that thing beefy enough, it would almost be like an external roll cage! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

B to C (Nick),
The background in that pic looks very familiar. It wouldn't be the parking lot by the Arnett Dorm would it /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif? I was there for a couple years in 83-84. Brings back memories /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I don't know about using it as a roll cage, Its pretty thin walled 3/4 square tubing, I treated plywood and put on top, but my buddy made one and used expanded metal, it made the whole thing a little more rigid, but when you are standing on top, with the topper off, all the mud and dirt from your shoes goes through the expanded metal onto the seats. Mine you can just sweep off. I've added more lights since then, so when you get the coyotes called in, I hit the foot dimmer switch I mounted on the floor and I've got 360 degree lights to find the little buggers with. Pretty easy to build yourself, I think the parts cost me $45.00. Just hold a piece up against the side of your ride, mark where it needs to be bent and go to bending. Took an afternoon. I have to take the rack off before the top comes off, the braces in the back are just barely in the way, I wasn't thinking when I built it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

55" x 99"
Serves as both a rack and as an observation deck when I'm at the races. Has 2 front and 2 rear bike-tites welded to it (horizontally) and a dust amber on the rear. The white disc just aft of the RF corner is a GPS antenna for the Lowrance "fishfinder." I mitered the corners of the deck pieces for tiedown access w/o having 'stuff' sticking out/up into the air. I also have 7 threaded inserts welded into the rear tube to bolt an air deflector to when/if I ever get around to building one. The rear bike-tites double as hand-holds for climbing up on top and I put boat deck tape on the top of the hitch socket, bumper, and tailgate.
Contemplated sleeping up there at Punta Conejo, Baja.

Ryan Likey that too! Where are the pics of yours? Once you get done with it your gonna need to build one of those for me too! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Looks like a Solar Panel to power the TV /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Its cool though /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Hmmm You are correct sir. And for remembering a scene like that from 20 years ago you deserve a prize! /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Will you be pitting at the San Felipe race next week? Where will Locomocos set up on the course?

What is that, a dance floor?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you want to dance up there, have at it. Be better if you could convince a lady or two to join you. Then the rest of us could enjoy the view. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I wanted it as least obtrusive to airflow as possible. Dern'd thing only gets 9 now, sure don't need more wind resistance. It's all 1-1/8" x .080 wall with 3/4 ply set flush to the top and 1/4 ply to be set flush to the bottom. Idea was also to create a "Sahara Top" ala those double roofed Land Rovers used in Africa. Just putting that on made a huge improvement in how cool the inside stays when parked in the hot sun. Something that's important with only dash A/C.

I won't be there, cash flow issues. 3rd year in a row I've missed SF for one reason or another.
PM Curtis Guise on rdc, he should know where LMc will be.
