Been looking at a lot of the roof top tents.

Anybody have a brand they think is better and why?

Are any of the tents set up to have a passage from the roof of the truck into the tent itself?

spring loaded popup? something, I've considered:

Spent a few days in one of their tents. Worked great. Same quality if not better than the ARB tents. And they have killer customer service.
The annex can to the side or off the back, depending which way you bolt it down.
This is the one I'm getting shortly.

That's the going price for good ones. ARB are around $1600 without annex.

And these ones are good. Went to bed in a driving rain that went to snow after midnight and woke up nice and dry with 2' on the ground. My friend ripped his window and they sent replacement no charge out overnight from Santa Cruz.
That sold me on customer service.

Bass Pro carries their tents now so you can dig around for discounts. Same tent $50 cheaper and free shipping from Bass Pro.

After a desert diamond back decided under my tent was a nice place to stay warm, I'm off the ground. Plus that the family is now 3 of us, sleeping in back isn't an option. Our 2yr old sleeps like a skydiver.
No fun waking up with a small foot in your eye and other in your ear... :doah:

I'd been pricing them for a while and new they were a bit pricy but the tapui price tag is a little less than a lot of them.

I think it'd be even better if you could access the back of the vehicle down through the roof. I'm sure they don't make them that way. Most people wouldn't be willing to cut a hole in thier roof.

I am still liking my sort of idea mount a pop up camper on the back of a pickup.

That being said Lifetime makes one that fits in a trailer that would go on the back of a truck, Jumping Jack does also.

I have a medium Maggiolina AirLand. I love it in comparison to my trailerish thing. It's super easy to setup. The mattress is wicked comfortable. I would guess I have spent around 30 nights in it. I'm also a small guy. The fellow I bought it from was over 6 feet and found it too cramped so he was upsizing. I have comfortably slept myself, a 35 pound pita dog, and a girl who is also rather skinny.

I talked to a fellow at CVT tents last year. They were having a sale at the time. The Maggiolina was used and local to me for a similar price. They CVT guy said buy the Maggiolina over his hard top tent product.

Check expedition portal for deals on used tents. It seems quite a few guys buy them, and never get to use them the way they dream of. Then, they resell them on the cheap. If I had the means to buy new I would have gone all out on the Maggiolina with the cargo space up top. My tent fiberglass is too light to strap gear.

My favorite part, is I feel ready to go camping at a moments notice with very little preparation.
