Does anyone know if there is still a rotor and hub assembly available that comes pressed together for a '74 D44?

I can find them for the later '78+ D44.

What exactly is the difference between them and can a later assembly be used on a earlier axle?

I saw them years ago and now they're non existent.

Really doubt you'll find the hub now adays. Early design 73-77??? Has a smaller inner bearing than the later model hub so, no, later model won't work. I have the og hubs/rotors/spindles off my 75 on the pile o' parts if you can't find a new one.

To use the newer assembly I assume I'd have to change it all from the spindle out?

Any benefit to the newer big bearing spindles? Other then ease of finding bearings and hub assembly?

Unless you need a hub because of damage the job isn't that bad. The correct way is with a press but most of us are guilty of using a giant hammer at some point. It can be done that way if you are careful to not bugger the threads. I always reassemble with a hammer and punch anyway. The press fit isn't that tight going back together, just hard to get them out.

One thing to keep in mind.
If you go with the bigger bearing assembly and you keep your old axle shafts, the inner bearing in the spindle will not support the shaft and it could wobble.
If you do go with the big bearing hubs, an upgrade to the bigger stronger shaft would be good
