My Son and I have recently purchased a 91 Blazer and we would like to install a 4" lift but have budget restraints. We have read various articles stating the Rough Country lift kits are a good bargin but the ride quality is poor. I also recently heard that Rough Country changed the manufacturing of their springs which has enhanced the ride quality. Anyone have a recent Rough Country installation?

Also we would like to install a new cat-back dual exhaust system.
Magnaflow,Jegs, flowmaster? I want performance my son wants tone any suggestions?
Thanks
Big "G"

I have a Rough Country lift on my '90 and in my opinion it doesn't ride any rougher than it did when stock. When you have a 4x4 with a wheelbase as short as a K5 I don't think a soft cushy ride is ever going to happen. I'm fine with mine.

I don't know anything about their new manufactured stuff but I have used both rough country and tuff country and they are a world apart in ride. I would go tuff country with shackle flip, great ride and not too pricey.

i dont know about the rough country but i do have tuff country and the ride is great. but i would suggest getting the best shocks you can afford that will help out your ride quality for sure. as far as the magnaflow exhaust the sound is the best imo i wouldnt say it gives alot of noticeable hp but the sound will be great.

Where were you going to buy your lift from? I Just got a 4" lift from there web site with brake lines for under $400.

Skip the Rough Country.....they live up to there name! I have a 79 K20 and even with my long wheel base a certain pair of rail road tracks and bumps I have to drive over when I take it to work are less than enjoyable because of the bucking back and forth that occurs!

Go BDS 1st choice, Tough Country 2nd choice period, end of story. I have TC's cause they were on Christmas Sale thru ORD.

i have 4" rough country front springs on my Blazer and it works fine for me. I also have 4" Rough Country springs on a Ramcharger and it rides like a tank and will not flex at all.

I have a newer 4" RC full suspention lift on my K5. I think it rides good. Better than my old stock Hd suspention. I have had many people ride with me offroad and none have complained about the ride. It also flexes well.
The old RC lifts were pretty stiff. The newer lifts are susposed to have lower rate springs and they have teflon tabs between the springs now. If you do go with RC. Upgrade the shocks to the Nitro 9000. They are only about 5.00 more and ride a lot better than the basic shock.
I will admit The ride is not as good as tough country. But TC has one of the lowest spring rates you can get. Because I wanted a higher spring rate I went with Rough Country. I tow a lot and need stiffer springs than Tough Country EZ ride.
I recomend you buy the full suspention lift with the rear springs. Dont use blocks if you can get away with it.
There is a vendor on Ebay called Top Gun. They have the cheapest prices on RC lifts and very cheap shipping. They are a reputable company. Rough Country even links to them on their web site.

I'll take a firm bumpy ride over a soft floppy ride anyday, for a vehicle driven of the street anyway. With the stock soft half-ton springs of my burb, it will rock violenty side to side when one side goes over a speed bump or when turning onto a road where the pavement is at a slightly different level. With a firm suspension, it would just be one good bump, and then it would be over.

ruff country not bad.

i have the older ruff country springs.they dont ride too rough for me.i like a lil stiffer ride for cornering.i get alot less roll into the corners than asoft ride spring.they seem to flex well also.ive never had it on a rti ramp but just from the 4x ing that ive done i have no prolems with flex either.procomp i have on the rear after i spit the blocks out in the rear.i really like them also and from 4 wheel part, they were pretty cheap.i think 400 i paid for them about 5 yrs ago.

i got 4" RC on mine and honestly it rides better than stock cause my sping bushings were gone and my shocks were ****

If you do go RC lift then i would suggest atleast use greasable bushings all around, helps smoothen the ride.

Do they really make a noticeable difference?
Like if you replaced all 12...would there be any bad side affects?

I noticed a difference with my TC lift so I would assume you would notice even more with a stiffer lift.

Thanks. Where did you get yours? There pretty much all the same right, wonder who has them the cheapest..... the ol lady said howerver much we get from this tax thingy I can have
all but $150 :D:bow: :D :bow::D:bow:

Which is good since I found out both ends of my drag link are FUBAR :doah:
TRE dont look so good either.

Watch the classifieds on this site. You could end up with a pretty nice suspension on the cheap. There was a 4" BDS lift that just sold that would have been a nice option for you. Stuff like that comes up now and again. Otherwise Tough Country and a shackle flip if your current rear springs are in good shape. I'll second (or third or fourth) the greasable bushings. They made the ride in my CUCV a lot nicer. :waytogo:

I have just put a RC 4" kit in my 87 and it rides great, I removed the bottom leaf and replaced it with a zero rate (1/2" thick) the springs are better than they used to be. my new ones have anti-friction pads on them, where my old set from the 80's did not.

i had a 4in RC lift on my long bed truck and i have a 6in BDS all spring lift on it now and its a night and day difference. The stuff i had to slow down and easy over with the RC lift, the BDS lift just glides over.

Ill spend the extra money on the BDS lift for the next truck, the way i look at it you get what ya pay for.:deal:
