Rough Country

This looks like an awsome deal............ I will definitely get the steering arm... I will go w/ block for now and maybe do a shackle flip later on... Sould I get the Hydro shocks or Nitro shocks? or could I get some better shocks for the money made by someone else????
Will this setup be a problem if I choose to get a winch down the road to to the EZ ride?????? (its a small block motor)

Thanks for the website Leper, it seems like a lot better deal than RC.....

PS
would the single steering stabilizer they sell to replace the OEM one be worth getting if I run 33 or 35" boggers??????????

where in ga are ya?

You might want to try to find a used set and go from there. Check around and take your time. Worst thing you can do is rush into something.

yea, the single stabilizer will work just fine.

If you're only going to run a 33, you only need a 2-3" kit. I would do springs and blocks, until I could afford the shackle flip/ new springs

yeah unless your in a hurry i'd take a step back and heed steve's advice post up in the Wanted section and see if you get any results people sell complete lifts all the time and you may get a good deal on a great setup and have money left to play with ;)

I saw a raised steering arm for $40 shipped in the classifieds, I'm sure you could find some springs for $100 or so, shocks for another $100-$175, blocks are cheap new and come with new u bolts. Do that and buy new brake lines, you might have enough to get a ord flip and some descent stock rear springs.

Just a thought :D

PS: I hope you weren't planning on buying tires with the same $500 :doah:

I want tires for Christmas (I'll have to pay for part of them) It'll be like $582 if I get everything I need shipped to the door. Am I really going to have to extend my brake lines w/ only 4 inches of lift???????? will I be able to use my stock parking brake after the lift??

Yeah, if a good deal falls in my lap, I'll definitely grab it........ I think I will earn the $$ but wait untill christmas when I get the tires to buy the lift....

If my memory serves me correctly...........

With a 4 inch lift, its best to "relocate" your brake lines to the bottom side of your frame. Factory they are on the top or come thrue it. OR, you can buy new steel braided lines, or buy extensions for your stock lines. The NAPA part # is floating around this site somewhere.

If you wait until x-mas, I'm almost positive you'll be able to find everything you'll need.

Did you ever say where in GA you were? I'm in Spartanburg, SC not too far from ga.

I'm not too far from columbus........... A pretty good ways from SC... I made a trip up through that way not too long ago to look at the Nascar technical institute,,,, but I decided I would rater go to college here in GA and be a teacher (long summers to wheel and fish)...

So will I have to buy extensions, or could I just rerout the stock ones somehow? (I really don't want to have to unhook them, because I don't know the first thing about working with brakes (I guess I need to learn)..

You will have to unhook them somewhere if you do anything to lengthen them. It's all very easy to do, and you can ask questions here if you get stumped.

The only problem with the EZs is that if you are real hard on them or add a bunch of weight to your truck they will droop faster than the others because of the spring rate being so low.(so I've heard) Never seen it though

That is correct the softer the spring the less weight you can carry and the sooner they will sag.. The Tuff country shocks have a softer spring rate and will sag faster then the Rough country.. If you look at the chart it will give you a number like 295 lbs.. What this means is it will take 295 lbs to compress that spring one inch.. If you add 590 lbs it will compress 2 inches..

Here is a spring rate chart from here.. http://www.coloradok5.com/springratetable.shtml

It seems almost everybody when asked what is the best way to lift a truck these days the 1st answer is always a shackle flip followed by longer springs.. Now I will agree that if your looking for the most flex and are not going to be towing anything then that would probably your best bet.. But from what I have read if your going to be towing a shackle flip is a bad idea.. It would also be a bad idea to use springs with the softest spring rate..

There are those of us that have no rocks or trails to ride on and might want to haul a heavy load or pull a trailer.. So if you fall under that scenario and are just going to play in the mud then you would want to get a heavier spring rate.. Even though the ride might be a little rougher it will be up to the task at hand..

So the best thing to do is figure out what catagory you fall under and make your decision of how to go about lifting your truck to suit your needs..

The idea that a shackle flip causes problems with towing is a complete fallacy. This has been discussed TOO many times in the ORD Forum to belabor it again here. Just try a search there on a keyword like "towing" and you'll see what I mean....

Beyond that, if the desire is to haul heavy loads or pull a trailer, I hate to say it, but the problem is you shouldn't be using a Blazer anyway. It's not the correct vehicle for the application, and that's even BEFORE you add a suspension lift, in which case it's even LESS appropriate.

(This is blasphemous talk on a K5 site, I know.) :wink1:

I have searched here and other boards and like I said from what I have read the majority of people say that it's not the best idea to tow with shackle flip.. There are countless threads here with that topic and people arguing for it and against it.. So I guess with not having a 100% agreement between the masses on if it's ok or not ok then that is why there is still so many threads arguing the subject :D For the record I would like to put a shackle flip on my truck with 2 inch springs to gain the 6 inches of lift but after reading the pros and cons of it then I don't think that is the way I will be going..Once again like I told the other fellow do some research and decide what is best for you..

Well that is a moot point for me because I'm not towing with a Blazer :p: The truck that I'm talking about is my 84 K 20 with a 14 bolt ff and a Dana 44  So I believe it is more then enough to pull or haul a heavy load and still be fine to go tear up the mud pits :D

The towing with Blazer has been discussed several times too.. You say that people shouldn't use a Blazer to pull heavy loads.. I know a few fellows that have lifted Blazers and use them for towing.. One of them has a 32 ft camper that he pulls every other weekend and has been doing so for over 5 years with no problem.. One that pulls a 24 ft boat almost every weekend and another one that pulls a enclosed race car trailer loaded with a Chevelle and a golf cart to the track every friday night during race season..

So with that being said I will say again everybody should make their own mind up and decide what is best for them :thumb:
