What is the highest RPM's I can run my 454 engine without damaging it on long trips? I have a 700r4 and 35's.............

I don't know what gears are in the rear, but I am asking because I want to know what are the lowest gears I can get away with when I change them........

You could get away with 5.13s since u have an OD trans. RPMs would be kinda high for a big block, but would be about right if u ever went to a 37 or something similar. If you have thought about goin bigger, get 5.13s. If not, 4.56s would be good...i vote 5.13s

if you run your BBC over 3k for any length of time you will feel it in wallet (gas) and see it on the temp guage. as stated befor keep it under there and you be fine

Wouldn't the 5.13 be weak in the d44? Any Idea what RPM's I would be doing with 5.13 doing 70 mph? I don't know what gearing I have right now but doing 65 in od I'm around 1800 without around 2200 gas isn't that bad but I would like more power. BTW I am planning on throwing on some 36/14.5/16.5 when I am through with my 35's.........................

Just using a online gear calculator , 1800 rpm with 700r4 OD , tranny in hi ( 1 to 1 ) , and 35's comes out to about 4.10 gears . Do you have a 14 bolt ?

Oh , just checked your profile you do have a 14 bolt . Could very well be 4.10's already in there then .

With that tranny , torque converter , and gears , as long as your staying 35's/36's , its allright for now . Spend your money on other stuff like lockers and recovery equipment .

I'm planning to get lockers aswell just wanted to change everything while I was in there ;) ..........
