Doing a breakdown of my RPO Codes and come across some that nobody has a listing for.

23D- The number sequence identifies this as a color or material type for molding or trim
I have an order number listed for this truck at the bottom of the placard. The 23D code is also listed there. Any ideas?

The gm parts catalog won't break down a vin for a squarebody anymore. I was able to read my 1991 3 years ago. I am not currently able to break it down now.

I want to say the RPOs are broken down in the parts manuals, both as a comprehensive list, but also for each component (like transmission, trim, etc).

If I was home I'd check the PDF for you. Link to the manuals is in my signature block, but if it doesnt display, I think you'll find my signature in my profile?

Not sure how many times GM has done it, but RPO codes can be vehicle line or year specific...a G80 is gov-lock in a truck, but can be a variety of clutch type diffs in cars. As a for instance. Universal RPO lists are not, if they don't show those differences. People apparently take one manual, for one year, for one vehicle, and post that up as if it's all the RPO's that exist, or the only meaning for that RPO. Without knowing the source manual for the RPO's, impossible to know if what you are reading is correct for your vehicle.

23D is "Trim combination - blue velour, cloth" in the 1987 R/V/G/P service manual.

you would be incorrect on that as i can still run the vin, it sets the cataloge and gives the break down of the options on my 88 and my 82 in the GM cataloge there is i few blank descriptions on the 82 compared to the 88 but for most still give the description for each of the codes, unless your working with a different version of the cataloge that we here in canada have at the dealership

I wouldn't be surprised at all that it's different between the US and Canada. That's GM for you.
