Rubicon July 2023

Yeah, I'll probably have to get ripped off to top off the tanks and have any hope to make it.

This fuel thing is something to think about after Moab Rim. Coming
down the steep decent I had half a tank but it was still low enough to uncover the pickup and kill the truck. Luckily I had a full tank to switch to. These saddle tanks are not the best for offroad.

I'm try to remember if there is room for a 40 gallon suburban tank from your build thread. I ran 3 days without fueling at BB.

could you fab a baffle for the tank pickup so its surrounded by fuel...kinda like the areomotive fuel pump system.

https://www.aeromotiveinc.com/product/phantom-200-stealth-fuel-system/

the yellow foam/rubber piece is the baffle that surrounds the pump..keeps it surrounded with fuel even when the tanks on a incline.
I was thinking it needs a couple good baffles the divide the tank into thirds. I was also wondering if I could make one of the aeromotive units work in those tanks. The factory baffle trays are both cracked. I'm wondering if the cracks cause more trouble than I realized.

@Justin V and I talked about one he has. When I measured I didn't think it would quite clear the rear axle. Might be due to the receiver hitch.

But then I'm giving up 9 gallons of fuel. (Said for the sake of being argumentative)

No point in the extra fuel if you can't suck it out. A 31 gallon tank plus another 5 extra should be more than enough right?

Plus you get rid of those saddles before you put a hole in one.

video on SPEEDWAYs website shows them installing a areomotove setup in a factory tank..so it can totally be done

I didn't pick that one out in particular. What issues have you had?

Personally I haven't had any as I avoided it with the FiTech systems I've installed. If you google FiTech fuel command center you'll read hundreds if not more compaints about it failing. Couple guys here on CK5 have had issues too.

I've installed 3 of those with FiTech systems. No issues.

Many of the issues revolve around heat in the engine bay, boiling fuel and creating vapor lock conditions. Some guys have zero issues however they've been the minority so far. Obviously the climate you live and the vehicle use play a roll in all of this.

If you rigged it with a vent that returned to the main fuel tank, it would constantly circulate fuel through it with your regular fuel pump and prevent that.

So you would think. There are thousands of posts about this failing system on various forums and on the FiTech owners Facebook page.

For me, the TBI Tank and Delco pump work so why complicate it.

I've never used one of those, I just thought they looked like a cool idea. In AZ I would never even think about mounting that in the engine compartment. On my '72 I used an external Walbro with a return that went back to the tank. Originally the kit (Holley Commander 950) had a T to return the fuel back into the fuel line just before the pump. I vapor locked it the first time I took it on a long trip. Stopped at a parts store in Payson and rigged up the return line to dump back into a vent line to fix it.
