Rubicon July 2023

The time is coming fast. If you're planning on going, remember this is a 3 day wheeling trip. If you've got changes to make to your rig, get them done early and trail test as much as you can. It's gonna suck to have a failure deep into the trail.

If my jalopy is back together I’m in. It’s highly unlikely but not out of the question

You have a lot of testing to do

Don't get too hung up on the "extreme" of the Rubicon. We had fun running it, could have been done in a day. Without pushing hard. One was a stock JK on 35's. I even drug a CJ out about 2 miles, then went back in and blew a tire bead on a 6" ledge.

Rubithon is 21st to the 25th. Land Cruisers. There will be a lot of them already there to run the trail before the event. Should be entertaining.

I hadn't looked at the event schedule yet for this year, but I noticed when I looked in the past that most events started later in the week; that's why I want to start on Monday. If it turns into a big poop show, maybe they can bail us out. :haha:

That's good to know. I have no idea what the conditions are, so I'm trying to be prepared for "hardcore". I'd love to be pleasantly surprised that we are over-prepared.

The trail has bypasses but still offers obstacles to keep the most prepared vehicles challenged

I've never left this trail without new dents, rocker/bumper rash and broken tail lights. The trail has narrow/sloped sections that most jeeps/toyotas/buggies wouldn't even think twice about, however the wide squares need to slowly maneuver through them. Matt & Pat from Colorado ran the trail with us and they were surprised how difficult it was after hearing how easy it was from others. Of course certain sections like little sluice can be easy or quite difficult depending on the time of year and events scheduled.

Sucks to hear about Rubithon, we might have to go out Tahoe so we're not going against traffic coming off the trail. That,s shitty for the guys with trailers......

I'm driving thru to Pollock Pines and staying there the night before we start the trail. I have a room reserved at the Best Western there.

Josh and I talked about that a little over PM. I think everyone coming from our direction with trailers have street legal rigs so we were wondering about the practicality of leaving the tow rigs in the Tahoe area. Any thoughts on whether or not it's possible?

At the North end of the trail there is a large parking area. I parked the semi with a trailer. Had to wait for the Jeep Jamboree people to begin leaving. Was a one lane road getting into it. It is quite the drive to the other end. Do not plan on getting gas at the last stop on the way into the trail. It was $7 a gallon in 2016.

I figure I'm just paying what I have to. I won't be able to skip many gas stations. Remember this meme Nate made for me:

Like I tell Nicole, gas isn't going to be cheaper in the future so might as well just do the trip and deal with it.
