Rubicon July 2023

Hey guys. It’s been awhile but I am now back in California and just down the mountain off hwy 50 in Cameron Park. I’ve been looking for a group to do the Rubicon with as it’s just up the hwy from us now. I no longer have BlaZeus but I still have my 55 Willy’s that I’ll join y’all with. What days are you guys planning a trip? July 19th weekend?

In July we're hitting the trail during the week days, Mon-Wed, 17-19.

Tell us more.
We like to know who's coming in the group.

I've been to a couple Blazer Bash's. I ran the Rubicon for the first time back in 2020. I noticed the Uinta guys were going, so we thought it would be cool to meet up. Joey mentioned that we should reach out to you guys on this thread.

We normally don't discriminate against brands but we like to know more about the company we keep. Let us know more about yourself and your jeep
Totally get it. I've taken the jeep across the rubicon twice, on 35s and 37s. As well as Moab and the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. I built it to drive and not trailer, as well as carry quite a few spare parts and tools. It's been driven to the trailhead, wheeled, and driven home afterwards on every trip as well as carrying all my camp supplies. At least thats always the plan. My goal is to be self sufficient. I've been wheeling since I was a kid and I'm not too shabby of a driver.

Now the Jeep I built/completed all the work myself, long arm, coilovers, trans/tcase rebuilds, etc.

Jeep is stretched to 105in wheelbase, D60/14 bolt, 5.38 gears, 35 spline inner/outer yukon shafts in the D60, front/rear yukon grizzly lockers, 4-1 tcase, 5 speed, 40in Milestars, 14in coilovers, stock 4.0L, 12k winch, and i carry spare sensors, electrical connections, u joints/ bearings and a scanner as well... Jeep gets pretty heavy on trips like these.

I like to have fun, help others when needed and hang with a good group of people.

Currently also dialing in my cummins 6bt 1985 square to use for camping. Hence the reason to join this forum. It was originally a 2wd, 305ci, th350 with a 2.73 10 bolt. I converted to a 4x4, diesel and 5 speed. Currently on tons, 3.73s and yukon grizzly lockers. I'm finishing up the interior, vintage air, tcase large input machining/rebuild and twin stick setup. All work here was also completed by myself.

I know this is alot, and probably more than you wanted. But hopefully it helps tell the story.

I'm also friends with Brian in the blue K5 that posted before me. I'll vouch and say hes cool.

Hey man! Glad you found your way to CK5. It will be good to run with you again.

The current plan is to leave from Pollock Pines Monday morning (7/17) and camp on the trail Monday and Tuesday night, returning to Pollock Pines Wednesday evening. Since we've never run this trail ourselves, plans have to remain flexible, but that is the plan for now.

The Rubicon never disappoints.

Somehow I managed to drive home with both taillights untouched however I destroyed a steering box upon arrival at buck. I was bumping a step up when my passenger rear tire fell in a hole. Front driver was over 6'+ off the ground per @bmxbryant9 and @Chevk587. I think I shocked it when I came down, destroyed the internals to the point it was locked up. Here in the pic you can see my wheels turned driver, that was the furthest I could turn passenger.

Luckily I bought a Garmin 7001 with an i reach account so I texted a buddy and sent him to store to pick up a gear box for a C10. @Bent77 provided information from the interwebs because I was limited to information we knew off hand. Monday afternoon @bmxbryant9 and @Chevk587 drove out to Loon (5 hour round trip) in Zak's jeep to grab the box while I stayed at camp with the 4 kids. Upon arrival they figured out the gear box was for some other unknown vehicle. The next day we drove back out and met them again with two more box options and some hoses, one of which was a PSC box I bought from @AgDieseler a couple years ago. That box ended up working with an o-ring high pressure hose and some other parts @Chevk587 had. My truck was setup for flare hoses so we had to swap the pump port to an o-ring and run an o-ring hose. We left buck around 6pm IIRC and I drove off the trail and back home that night.

Here's a pic of us coming off the trail Tuesday night around 9pm.

I should also note the trail is clear from Loon to the springs. I heard Cadillac Hill has snow drifts however some guys made it through Sunday.

Sounds like an adventure. Drifts on Cadillac Hill would make things interesting.

I used to be a regular on here, but I got banned a long time ago. I used to go by chickenrammit. I'm older and offend people more subtly these days.
