actually,i'm pretty sure of what it is.i'd just like to have my suspicions confirmed.(numbers:GM 591665) I was wandering around my father-in-law's yard the other day and found an old top loader 4-speed w/ one PTO cover.no t-case attached though.by comparing it to Peterson's stick-shift tranny tech article,i'd have to say it's a SM420.if so,it probably would need to be rebuilt after being burried in the weeds for so many years.where would i find a rebuild kit?and maybe a divioced t-case?

not sure about a rebuild kit, those transmissions havent been built in a "few" years. i have seen 465 rebuild kits on ebay, but not for a 420.

id pull the top cover and inspect the condition.

does the transmission spin freely?
