Does anyone have access to run a vin to get the build sheet? Or is there a known site to do this on?

thanks

There is one site I have found for old GM vehicles that will tell you the production number and what factory it was made in, factory engine etc. I have yet to find a site that will give you full history like a car fax because these trucks are to old. Not quite sure when they started using the new 17 digit vins but my truck has the old 13 digit vin like all the old Gms and I haven't found a site that will give anything but basic info, if you have the newer vin though you might be in luck.

I believe GM only kept records for 10-15 years, however our friends to the North in Canada can go back to the late 50's(?), definitely early 60's as Canadian law requires them to keep records for life.

The answer to what you are searching for is the GM Heritage Center, found here: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html

What you want can be found on the link at that page for "Printed Vehicle Build Sheets and Invoices". Even without a VIN, there is invaluable info about exactly what was offered each year as a PDF Vehicle Information Kit. You didn't mention what year your rig is, because unfortunately GM can only provide build sheets for Chevy's since 1977 and GMC's since 1976. The cost is $50, and I recently got one for my 1980 Suburban and it was quick and well worth the money. If your rig fits the year range I'd highly recommend getting the build sheet. These trucks have been on the road so many decades and have seen so many different owners in some cases that it can be fascinating to see how it was configured as originally purchased.

Compnine.com has a vin decoder that you have to pay for, but I have found it onler works for newer cars. Did not work for my 87, but gave me every RPO that my 03 and 06 have. PM me your vin and I will see if I can run it (my subsription runs out soon).

Thank you for posting this as I couldn't recall what it was called. I know on another forum that I am on, stevesnovasite.com, they refer back to these quite often. I believe for cars built in the 60's they aren't always accurate as some dealers had close relationships with the factory and could get some crazy optioned cars. Didn't mean to hijack as i know the OP was referring specifically to his truck but these are pretty cool.
