i took my rear driveshaft out and as you all probably well know, atf went everywhere. is it ok to drive it maybe 20 miles with the level that it is so i can go to work and get some oil there

That is a little far to drive with no oil in the TC. It is really going to heat it up a lot, and could cause some serious damage. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you have no choice, you can try.

I don't think there's been oil in my truck's T-case since about 1980 so you should be fine. I mean.. the darn truck leaks oil all over onto the street, so I figure it don't like the stuff.:haha:

How much came out 1/2 cup or so? If thats it your will be fine. Anymore I would get some more oil first.

If you have the driveshaft reinstalled then it likely would not be a problem...I definitely would not drive without the d-shaft installed because it would pump a lot more fluid out of it.

The best way would be to pull the fill plug and see how low the fluid level is.

when i busted my u-joints, i pulled the yoke out, then duct taped a cup back there as a dust shield and to keep fluid in while i drove it in front wheel drive to a campsite. the hill where i broke was way too steep to safely work on.
