driving with no doors is something i love to do, but whats the safety disadvantage of it? do the doors help strengthen the can in a rollover without a cage? Any opinions?

i always wanted to drive around with my doors off but never had a chance too...i keep breaking my truck haha, my buddy does it all the time on his lifted jeep grand cherokee

They hold your arms and feet in

im gonna get the diy4x tube doors probably, i was worried about if the door actually strengthen the cab on the truck, ooo well, no doors are to badass to give up

i run none.just as strong im sure :D i hate tube doors to noisy off road

it doesnt seem any different than with the top on or off kinda. it still squeeks and rattles just as much with doors on or off. i dont notice any different sway or creaking with em off. i could see how directly on the lid it could help, but i think the side impact on wouldnt be benificial with doors on as opposed to off.

so in a nutshell, i dont know.

Yeah side impact wouldnt make a dif. Front definitely would. Seeing as how the truck had an actual frame though idk how much I would worry about it. Now if we were talking like a cherokee I'd say that would make a HUGE difference in a crash.

im referring to on the road, a flop on the side is no biggie while offroading. i heard or read something before iirc that says here in georgia, doors are required...i'll have to check, of course jeepers ride with no prob from the pigs

here its only required to have a single rearveiw mirror unobstructed for 200ft. i have been hassled less with the doors and top off than i have with the doors and the top on.

I run with no doors and have had only one issue... If you are going down the road and drop something on the floor like a bottle, cell phone, etc... then you are never gonna see it again. I'm thinking about building half doors just for that reason.

Yes, the doors add some structural integrity to the chassis. Engineers use every little thing they can in their design, even windshields add strength.

How much strength the doors provide is debatable but its probably pretty relevant in comparison to the relatively weak roof structure on k5's

And I'm not suggesting that you avoid running without doors, I did it a lot and loved it. But yes, they add some amount of support and structural integrity.

I cant say I would go doorless with nothing at all to keep you in but your seat belt.

This is what I did.I just ran that diagonal and attached 1/4" plastic to the tube and all the way to the floor.

I know I know ,your gonna say "I dont have a cage".If you wheel you should have one.Chevy cabs aint as stout as you would like to think :D

I believe the legal aspect of it is the footwell is required to prevent anything from rolling out of your cab while driving. Thats why Jeeps get away with it. I plan on cutting down a set of doors to mainly just the frame the reinforce with a piece of tube diagonally.

Another con to no doors is if you catch a rock or a tree with nothing there your B pillar will never be the same
