I've got a friend with a 97vortec in a silverado. Sometimes it runs fine, then sometimes the check light will come on and it will skip and studder. It will even stumble so bad that it will cut off if you slow and come to a stop. Any ideas on what this may be? Someone told him that its a sensor. I don't know, don't have a way to check it because it only does it about once a week.

is the ECM throwing any codes???

Yeah the service light comes on but only when its messing up. Its not throwing a code the whole time.

I thought OBD2 stored any and all trouble codes whether shown by the SES light continously or not, for something like 50 engine starts WITHOUT the same failure occurring...

Yeah, the light on my '05 Dodge will go out after 3 engine starts (I think) but the code is stored for much longer.
