Hi All,

I have gotten to the point on my K5 where I am limited by what my abilites \ tools allow. Mechanically & Electrically my truck is sweet but the body is pretty rough, lots of rust, holes in the floor and poor hack jobs thanks to the previous owner.

Can anyone give me some ballpark figures that it might take to get my ride paint ready and by that I mean, rust removed or replaced, primed and body panels aligned. I know it's hard without seeing but am I looking at $1000, $2000 or more?

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks

Without pictures it would be hard to say even ball park. If it ends up being structural then you could double or tripple that amount. If it's just cosmetic and having it done by a shop could be a grand or two ,again no pics no way to even ball park. Just remember rust doesn't usually start from the outside so what you see is usually not what you got.

I Herculined the sides then covered with aluminum diamond plate.

Depends on how bad it is and truly how good of a job you want done. I have seen some pretty bad hack jobs by some "body men" but hey it was cheap.

Really do need pics to even guess but if the rust is extensive I would guess upwards of 5k

If its just rocker replacement and a couple of fenders you could probably get away under a grand

You're in CA go find a clean body, it's cheaper .

A local "classic" repair shop quoted me $60/hr to fix rust. I have a basketball sized hole through the floor/side and he said it's about 3-5 hours of work.

I found a clean truck in CA to buy instead and am shipping it out here.

Good advice here too. I just bought mine and it has some rust as well as some missing interior stuff. I found a really nice one in California and really wish I would have just bought the second truck just for parts. It's going to be a lot cheaper if you can make it work on any of the replacement parts. If it's the main cab or floorpans, well you are going to have to do some repairs. Depending on extent, maybe $500-$1000 for repairs and then $2000 - $3000 for a good paint job.

I got a quote from one shop to paint.....$5000 and he said that was before any rust repair. AND, he didn't even want to do it. Sent me to another place. Second shop does classic restorations.....really nice cars for sure! Gave me a starting paint job price of $8000 + rust repair. He guestimated $12,000 with rust repair!! Unbelievable!

So, do some shopping around. I actually just saw a newly painted K5 outside of Maccos and it looked pretty good. I stared at it for awhile and looked close to factory. I'm getting a quote there too.
