I know it doesnt look that bad and it isnt But there is a couple of spots where its almost all the way through. I am no body man. But what would be the Best way to repair this. For the winter I was think just pick up some rust inhibitor, some POR15, and then just give it a little blast of blue paint just to look desent.

Give me some opions

You've only just begun sanding that rust out. Even with a product like Rust Bullet or POR-15, you need to get as much rust out as possible. If sandblasting isn't an option, grab an angle grinder with a flap wheel and get it out quickly.

Getting the paint to blend is tough. If you can get a good color match, you should be able to paint just the bad spot (after body work is done) and sand it into the existing paint. If your truck is 2-tone, you might want to paint that whole bottom section, up to the body molding line. Even if it doesn't look perfect, having the body work done and painted will keep the rust from spreading.

Well I just Parked the truck for the winter (the city salted the roads). What really pisses me off iis this is from the California Desert and there was ZERO rust.

I got a friend who owns A body shop I think I will give him a call and see what he would charge me to cut the old metal out and weld in a new peice and paint it.

What a Flap Wheel?
I probaly should go pick up an angle grinder anyways, I broke my old one.

By the way here is a picture of the whole truck

Well I talked to my buddy at the body shop, and he said the reason its rusting is from the exhuast system. He says the best thing to do is exit the exhaust at the rear of the vehical, but i like driving with my rear window down, so no to that. Any suggestions there? He also told me to pick up a nice Dual action sander, and work that spot down some more, and see how bad it is. So i got a DA sander and I picked up some POR15 (no place around here sells rustbullet, and i dont wanna order it). so tommorow i will work at that rust spot some more.

A flap wheel is a grinding disc made up of little flaps of sand paper like material so that when it spins around you basically just sand the hell out of the material you're brutalizing. Just used one for the first time and all I can say is wow...

I say cut it off.:D I dunno if I buy the exhaust explanation. That portion of the body is prone to rusting due to the body stiffener right there. It traps crap under it and in front of it. Do that for 20 years and anything will rust out.

What I had on my '92 Blazer was a 3" single exiting behind the passenger tire (the exhaust was on the opposite side on the IFS trucks) but I had cut off the pipe just after the bend and just short of extending behind the tire. I had also turned it so it pointed down a bit too. High clearance, didn't stick behind the tire to get hit with road crap or drug on stuff, and because it was still behind the tire and not exiting out the rear the turbulance behind the tires carried the exhaust gases away just fine.

That is a flap wheel.

And you have it lucky if that's your only rust spot. I just got done patching my floor because I had about 5 huge rust holes.

Belive me I have seen Rust to the max. Felt like i needed a tetness shot just to look at them.

I know this is slightly off topic, but how much did he say he'd charge to repair it?

You know, It completly Sliped my mind to ask when I saw him:doah:

Sorry man, I know it has something to do with a Question in your build thread.

I dunt know the other Side is Perfect there. Basicaly If I am reading this right, the Rust was nothing to do with the Fact that I brought the truck to wisconsin from the desert of california

Well guys Ive been workin on this for a couple of hours this morning

Update, The rust is worse than I thought, so I am just gonna leave it alone and let a body shop do it when spring rolls around. I bet it goes through almost that whole lower Corner all the way to the rear off the truck

Here is pics
My new Sander:pimp:

Looks like it's been rusting under the double wall of the fender lip there.

There's plenty of rusty vehicles in California. Just depends on what they did with them and whether they were taken care of or not.

well this one has been taken care of and it was from the desert

Just get some mud in there and let it sit. Moisture builds and sits there for a while in those little cracks and crevices down there. Mine had little pinhole spots all over in that area.

Does the mosture of the exhaust have something to with it? cause it all rotting on the body but not on the backside

Eh, possibly if at some point the exhaust was pointed at it. As your exhaust sits now I doubt it.

There's a Ranger rolling around town here that has had the tail pipe actually pointed at the bedside for at least the 4 years we've been here. Yep, big ragged hole right there.

I am truly jealous. I only wish that 10 times that amount of rust was all I had to worry about.

I have heard of guys pouring crankcase oil into those double metal corners where water and mud can sit. Not sure as to what the underside of that vehicle looks like, but it's something to think about.
