well i found a paint color i like it's Rustoleum Smoke Grey. It looks similar to Gunmetal grey and i think if i get it i'll be pleased, but it says on the gallon that it is an oil-based enamel so............

1. this is gonna be a trail rig not looking for showcar paintjob it'll be my first and being a trail rig i just want tough paint and a uniforme color

2. is there a reason i should not use this paint will it not hold up well being oil-based

3. I know Squat! when it comes to paint any hell would be appreciated :cool1:

should stick fine if you prep it properly and clean the surface real well with a good wax and grease remover form a auto paint store.

well i should be ok then i will definately be prepping well i know that 80% of a paint job is surface prep......

i was more curious about the paint itself though i.e. is it tough easy to work with does it do ok with UV exposure etc.....

I know oil-base house paints usually take a while to dry, so this stuff might be the same way.
Wear a respirator when you apply it. Not a dust mask, but a respirator with filters for organic vapors.

I've painted a couple of 4x4's with it and other than thinning it quite a bit it wasn't too bad. After it dries you can even wet sand out any runs/sags you might get. As to UV problems it took about 5yrs for it to oxidize.
