S-10 Blazer trany fluid and filter replacement

Okay.. I haven't had time to actually peak under there but my mother tells me the place that changes her oil(a local mechanic) says it is a major job to change the transmission fluid and filter. Something about the pan being inaccessible(what he said, she can't remember ).

What's the deal here? I'm not terribly familiar with the rig and not sure when the last time the fluid and filter were changed. It is an '89 4.3L 4wd automatic, I assume it's a 700R4?

Same as changing it on a fullsize 700r4, drop the pan, change the filter, new gasket, and bam have yourself a beer.
