S-10 conversion stuff?

When I measured mine I measured an S-10 Blazer, then an S-15 Ext cab truck.
The K5 is 125" from firewall to tailgate, and the S-10 blazer is 121". From firewall to grille, I got 39" for the S-10, and 48" for the K5. So, its not that much longer. The wheelbase was 101.5 on the S-10, and K5 was 106.5". Keep in mind, these arent scientific measurements! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Two things, 1. it seems to me that putting the s-10 body onto the k5 frame would be alot easier, ive looked into the sas on the s10s and theres a bit of fabrication that needs to be done (mainly a new crossmember) and then you need to setup all the steering and find all the parts etc. to put the s10 body on the k5 frame what exactly needs to be done, you have your engine and drive train all set so it seems to me that all you would have to do is mess with the body.

2. how come no pics are showing up for me

s10 SAS isn't that difficult really. I had to extend my framerails which was slightly hard but mainly because I wanted to run 52" springs. Steering is easy. Astro steering box(if you move the axle forward as much as I did) and steering arm same as you use on a K5. I've done a lot to mine, but I wanted to.

Does the astro box mount on the inside of the frame too? Why is it that the S10 series was so far advanced of the fullsizes all the time? They had TBI in at least 85, if not earlier. They had fully boxed frames from the get go (but so did EB's). They had Vortec motors in 93. Interesting...

I think they test how consumers will react with the s-series before committing with the fullsize. The 98 S-10 front clip came out, then when the fullsize changed body styles it resembled the grill quite a bit.

I have a astro boc on my Blazer frame. It bolts right in place of the s-10 box, inside the frame, but turns in reverse. So you can run the pitman facing forward. My axle is a good 10-12 inches forward and the draglink is perfectly lined up.

I wonder if there's a box like that for the full size frames?

Too bad we lost most of the pics for this thread, I just killed the engine in my '83 S10 and I'm not sure what to do with the body.

Yea ive been looking into possibly putting my one tons under my s10 and wheeling it.. i just couldnt find much info...

Back from the Dead.
I am thinking about swapping a S-10 4 door blazer body onto my K5 frame.
I was wondering if anyone knew the wheelbase of the 80's model 4 door s-10?
My wheel base on the K5 frame right now is 114". How close am to the 4door?
I'm thinking a good comp cut to the front and rear of the 4 door as long as I might not have to cut into the back 2 doors.
I got the whole truggy effect going awn right now and I am going back to full body for a more all season vehicle.
