s-10 questions

found a deal on a beater s-10. its a 1992 2wd with the 2.4 4cyl. with an automatic. i looked at it this after noon, its no show stopper but looks to be a solid run around truck.

first question, anyone have one and is so hows the motor is it a pig or not? make note that this is for my father who isnt a speed demon, i would just like to find something for him that can get out of its own way.

question 2, of those guys who have one, is there a specific problem or problem area i should be looking for? for example does it have a rust problem like all k-5 blazers?

The 4cyl S10s are total dogs and cannot get out of their own way. Fine for an older man but not for me. I got fed up with my 4cyl S10 and slapped in a V8. The good thing about the 4cyl is the mileage. I got 28mpgs with my 95 2.2L with the 5speed. Being the older engine and auto I'd expact 24-25mpgs or so.

I'd stay with the 2.2 or 4.3. Can't comment on the older s10s, but my '01 has been good to me
