S-10 to K5. Any difference in trannys?

I found a TH700R4 tranmission with transfer case that was out of a 91 S-10. Mine is a 90 K5 and had the same transmission. I need one and a transfer case. I was wondering if this would work. I didn't know S-10s had 700R4s too.

Will this break quickly, is the set up different on those little trucks compared to ours, or is this actually a universal thing and will work?

Thanks!

I think there is less clutch plates in the S-10, but will work in a full size. Buddy owns junkyard and put lots of S-10 trannys in fullsize trucks.

The case is weaker from what I understand. If it has a "K" on the bell housing then its a good one. If not everything about it is weaker.

1 the T\C inspection cover on a S10, has 4 bolts retaining it, while a fullsize has 6, not a big deal if you get the s-10 cover with the trans. 2 the torque converter has a different stall(higher) that is less desirable to the average fullsize man, unless you like to mash on it alot(mud, or street racing lol). 3 the servo for 2-4 band is a little different, but i run a s-10 servo in mine(its very close in comparison to a corvette which is desirable). Its run-able assuming were talking about a 4.3 s-10 , as a 2.8 has a completely different bolt pattern on both the bellhousing and the torque converter.
Good luck , dont stress it to bad

Years ago, I have an '89 S-10 Blazer, the 700R4 went bad and got a good one from the salvage yard. It came out of full size Blazer. It bolted right up, no problems at all!

The only exception was a tang that I had to sawzall off the trans to clear the exhaust pipe, and that was minor.

But it ran fine, no problems. So I guess swapping back and forth is no problems on the 700.

AFAIK the 231 that was in mine, was also interchangeable with a full size vehicle and vice verse. From what I understand, both the trans and xfer are equally "strong" in either vehicle. Your mileage and opinion may vary.

AFAIK the S-10 is a driver drop case and ALL K5's are passenger drop. The trans doesn't have as many cluthes either as someone already said.
