I don't know about you but I hate those damn S-10 "Blazers". Those little turds come in, take the same name, and then run off with it. I've got a PA system mounted behind the bumper and I try to give them an earful, usually things like "aww what a cute little truck, i bet he wants to be a big boy when he grows up." Or I just give 'em an earful of the 350 and fly on bye.

"An old Blazer never dies, they just... rust away."

It ain't the owners fault. Talk to the GM marketing department. They're the ones that make the naming decisions. I thought it was pretty lame that they couldn't come up with a different name for the little rigs. And then to rename the full-sizes... What a crock. "Tahoe" was orignally an option package available for the S-10's. Now it's the name of the full size? Somebody in Detroit's smokin' crack!

Hey, man. I've got an S-10 Blazer. My little 86 S-10 Blazer can hand with most other trucks offroad. I've even towed a friend's K5 out of the muck with it. I hate that they did away with the FS Blazers, but you don't have to put down my rig because of it.

Ive got one of those little s10s, an 85. ITS A POS. I HATE IT. Whoever engineered them should be shot. Ever look up some of the repair costs? To replace the oil pan gasket, they want to yank the engine out because theres a big ol cross member in the way. You have to take out a cross member to get the starter out. It was a crappy engine (2.8L) and an all around low power piece of junk. DAMN THEM FOR STEALING THE NAME! CAN I TRADE MINE IN FOR A FULL SIZE?

ALWAYS BUMPIN!

The 2.8's were underpowered slugs. I've had a '91 with the 4.3 since it was brand spanking new. I don't run the trails at Moab with it, since it would probably break in half
wink.gif
but it gets me to work in crappy weather, gets about 17 MPG and is a pretty nice rig to drive. It's also been over a whole lot of the mountain passes in Colorado, much to the amazement of some of the Jeepers on the trails.

It's extremely rare that it ends up on the end of a tow strap or winch cable. I've taken it a lot of places that I'm sure the GM engineers would tell you that it wasn't designed to go, but the factory skid plates (which are well used) protect all of the expensive parts from the dreaded rock monster.

My friend has an '89 2WD with the 4.3 amd its pretty awesome actually. I would never trade with him, believe me, he's asked, but its pretty cool amd really fast. I raced him the other day and I thought he would kick my @$$, but we were neck and neck the whole time. Its really not that bad, but its starting to fall apart. He bent the axle by hitting a curb, and the door handles inside are really messed up, and no headliner, but other than that, its cool.

I hate when you call a parts store, tell them you have a 91 Blazer and theysay,"with a 2.8 or a 4.3?" I know it's not their fault, it's Chevy's. I called the other day and said K5 and he said,"A K what?"

I also used to have an S-10 Blazer 4x4 with the 4.3. I cranked my torsion bars, added longer rear shackles and managed a whopping 1 1/2" of lift
laugh.gif
. Oh well it was room enough to stuff some 31" MT's under it. I took it to quite a few places it shouldn't have gone and eventually realized if I wanted to do some real wheelin' I needed a truck the had some flex and stronger parts. Overall it was a pretty good truck (I'd never buy one with a 2.8) and my wife really liked it. She didn't talk to me for a week when I traded straight across for my 81 Jimmy.

Well, I had one of those 2.8L motors in my '85 and that truck was great (for a small rig). Fourwheeled great, was the best rig in snow I have ever owned, but just too damn small. Felt claustrophobic after owning it about 3 months..........bought it for the gas mileage as I was driving a lot at the time..........then sold it for my 454 powered '75! Wife thought i was nuts, but size does matter! Being 6'4" an S-10 is just too small for me.

I hear that, BlazzinOR. I'm 6'5" and feel cramped in it. I just love how the thing can handle off-road. The little 2.8 does frustrate me, though. Not enough power for me. I just get in my 75 Firebird if I want power, though! I'm planning on revamping the thing, too. I'm going to swap in a V8, solid front axle, and 33" tires with a little lift. I love this truck and will never sell the thing. The only reason I don't own a K5 is because I couldn't bring myself to sell my S-10 Blaze. By the way, I have NEVER been stuck. Buried the thing up to the frame and managed to get out.

Hey tRustyK5! That sounds alot like my S-10. I've got the torsion bars cranked to the stops but I put in an add-a-leaf in the back. Extended shackles would drag on the rocks here in Colorado. I'm surprised that you got 31's to fit. I'm running 30x9.50's on mine and they get very close to the fenders on a full stuff. Mine's also a 4-door, so that may make a difference.

I hear you guys about the tight fit. I'm 6'3" and about 210 lbs, but don't feel too cramped in the S-10. But a K5 has got to have the most room for the driver of any vehicle I've ever driven! :-)

Blaze, we've got to get you out here to Colorado. We can get your rig stuck!

I think you guys are NUTS. Who drugged you bought those S10s? Maybe its because its my first car, ive beat mine into the ground pretty good, it leaks oil pretty bad(the expensive leak), and has this annoying problem with the windshield wipers, whenever i hit the blinker they go off. A common problem they had was the mounting bolts on the steering column came loose, when they rebuilt mine they messed up the wiring for my windshield wipers. Other than that i have a bb gun shot in my windshield. Paint is all faded and peeling off, and someone gave it some custom body work on the driver side. Anyone wanna trade their k5? =)

But you see, the way to fix your oil pan leak is to yank out the 2.8 and donate it as a boat anchor. Drop a 350 in its place and go have FUN!

No one 'drugged' me when I bought mine
laugh.gif
I just wasn't anywhere near as informed about 4x4's when I bought it. Mine actually had few problems, but when I got rid of it, it was starting to leak from everywhere.
Harry, I did trim my bottom corners on the fenders to get the 31's to fit without hitting, I didn't cut much but it was enough to help them clear. I like the way it looked with 31's. It is amazing how big a 31" tire looks on an S-10! The last straw for me with that truck was when I lost an axle/drum/tire on the way to work one day!
frown.gif
I guess the slot in the axle for the C-Clip had worn and allowed the C-clip to drop out. I fabricated an .062" shim out of a hardened frame washer and that axle has never come out again (I know the guy who bought it)

Thats a great idea. THe only problem is those s10s are so cramped i would have to do some major major mods to get a 350 to fit. Of course i saw this guy in a magazine who put a corvette engine in and slapped it in 4wd and lit up all 4 tires, maybe ill go with that.

ALWAYS BUMPIN!

I know a guy that does V-8 S-10 swaps for a living. He also does V-8 4-Runner swaps. He's got a prety cool Chevy pick-up too! Dana 60 up front, 14 bolt FF rear, 650 HP 427, TH400 with 3000 RPM stall, NP 205 case. All sitting on 44" boggers! Did I mention the Nitrous?
laugh.gif
This truck is insane! Its also not very streetable, but it is insured and occasionally driven on the street!

The mods to drop in a Chevy V8 aren't that bad. Check out http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Chevrolet_S-10_V-8.html to see what's involved.

Whenever i am explaing to someone about my blazer, I have to say its a full size K5, and they are like what?

Keep the shiny side up, and the greasy side down.

No one drugged me either. I bought it when I turned 16 and I'm 21 now. I've beat it to the ground and it seems to keep getting back up again. I love this thing and will keep it till it dies(or rusts away).

By the way, I just put my coloradok5.com sticker on the side window of my S-10 Blaze!!!!
