Hey guys, I am back here on CK5 again. I aquired a 93 S10 Blazer and have been working on getting it in good running condition. The PO had removed the A/C compressor and put in a replacement pully.

I put a new compressor in yesterday along with new lines, problem is there is only one plug that goes into the compressor and it appears that there is an extra plug that should go in the compressor too.*There is only one plug receptacle on the compressor though*

The clutch will not engage on the compressor when I turn on the a/c. So this morning I went to the junkyard and looked at about 15 4.3 motors with a/c and they all have only one plug going to the compressor with the exception of one S10 pickup newer body style had the second plug attached to it.

Does anyone know what this thing is? Also, I cannot find a relay for the A/C to see if it is the culprit.

I am afraid to charge the system until I can figure this out....

Any A/C gurus?

The second connector goes to the pressure switch on the back of the compressor.Install the switch in place of the plug that is in there right now.

The compressor will not turn on until the system is charged unless you bypass the low pressure switch.

Since this is going to be a conversion to R134 it's important to replace the accumulator/dryer, add about 6 ounces of ester oil and recharge with no more than 2 lbs of R134. You should have the system vacuumed down to remove air and moisture, your brutal summers play hell with A/C systems so do everything you can to make it right.

So you are saying to get that switch from the junk yard and install it in the back of the compressor? I wonder why none of the other S10's I looked at did not have this?

If the extra connector is round with two pins in it, then yes, it's for the pressure switch that mounts on the back of the compressor. Otherwise, it could just be for something else that was left unplugged by the PO. You can buy the correct pressure switch from NAPA for around $15-$20. It can be hard to remove old ones without breaking them.

'93 S10s with 4.3L motors with manual transmissions do not have an a/c relay. '93 S10s with 4.3L motors and automatics do have an a/c relay. I do not have any automatic S10s, but I believe the a/c relay would be located on the same bracket as the fuel pump relay wich is located behind/above the brake booster.

Got it all buttoned up and charged today. Ready for summer. I was able to get a pressure switch out of the Junk Yard. So far just getting the A/C system to work cost me close to $400 and thats with JY parts and me doing all the labor??? How does that happen?

How does that happen?

You have bad Mojo from switching over to the Jeeps. If you had stuck with Gm/chevy stuff you would still have good Mojo and therefore would have spent .25 to get the AC back running.:p:

Want Fries with that?:doah:
