so this is the story. i recently start a business with my brother. we are making 4x4 parts, but primarily for the s10 platform, at least for now. and just to clarify right off the bat, im not a vendor on this site and i am not trying to sell this here, at least not yet. i just figured you guys would like to see what a fellow member is up to. my personal goal is to become like the diy4x of the s10 world.
so, we have this kit that we are developing for the s10 pickups and blazers, its a bolt on sas kit. it is designed to give 10" or more with SUA, currently the tallest suspension lift for an s10 is 6". the kit is designed with a variety of axles in mind for all those guys that want to run what is easily found, not just that one or two year only axle that people think it made out of gold. i wont list them all, but we will say it is a lot of axles to choose from. the kit uses leafs in the front, but it uses fairly long leaves with offset pins, and works with several common JY springs. this is done for a few reasons, 1st it puts the axle in the stock or forward from stock position without mounting the spring a foot in front of the bumper. 2nd, s10 frames are fairly notorious for being challenging for the shackle placement. they are not symmetrical from side to side were the shackles would go, and they have a fairly wide width on the frame so the shackles have to go inside somewhat, they cant easily be put directly under the frame rail. anyways, i chose to make the kit work with springs that put the shackle on a good spot on the frame, both flat and straight.
getting up to speed, we got our first prototype cut out and formed this weekend. we cut out the from half of the kit, which is going on my 89 blazer, but i will be 4 linking the rear now so i cant use the rear half (uses leafs still). hopefully it will be all tacked up tomorrow, and maybe done welded by the end of the week. i still have a lot of fitting and adjustments to make to it because its the first prototype and needs a little tweaking here or there.
the front crossmember has a built in mount for a winch that should clear the core support without any mods, and the shackle mounts bolt to a new trans crossmember that is clearanced for the driveshaft (stock ones go under the driveshaft and have to be modified to run sfa. the kit itself is pretty neat and should come with a bunch of stuff that should make most s10 guys happy, with hopefully a good price to go with it.
anyways, on to the pics.
we also cut out a prototype of a generic weld on front crossmember that we will probably be selling much sooner than the bolt on kit.
we also cut out these sweet shock towers
