Not sure about this idea, but here goes. I'm having a tough time finding a 14bff for my K5. Many 1 ton axles available from Fords. Will Ford axles fit under a K5 with little modification, or does is take too much work? Just curious.

It could work, you would need to measure the width from wheel mounting surface (WMS) to wheel mounting surface. I'm sure you would need to relocate spring perches and shock mounts. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think gear selection for the Ford/Sterling axles is limited.

Well newer fords, 99 and up (I think) have a different lug pattern 8x 170mm while all chevy and dodge and older fords were 8x 6.5 so that can be an issue. What about dodge axles ? especially the rears, dana 60's and 70's in alot of those. An older ford rear would be a d60, not as tough as a 14 bolt but not to bad.

be aware that Ford 60's require a driverside drop transfer case...

Dodge fronts are bolt-in, just need to spread the leaves a tad...

I'm thinking we're talking rear axles here, inasmuch as the OP's talking about a 14BFF :D

I know, but he did say 1 tons, so I thought I'd be preemptive... :wink1::wink1:

the sterling axles are great axles, but if you plan to lock it you will probably make up the cost of finding a 14b in the locker, if you plan on using a detriot anyway.

I seem to remember thinking the 10.25 was better than the 10.5 though don't remember why

So how much is a 14boltff worth? Let's say it needs to be regeared and an a locker added. Rebuilt to be sure it's good. What is fair market value? I understand that it depends on a lot of variables, but could you ballpark it? $300-500 fair?

in my neck of the woods, 100 for a builder and 3-500 locked and geared ready to go. probably has discs too.

I thought I read somewhere that fords used hub centric wheels. And not stud/bolt centric wheels like the chevy's. I don't know about dodge.

That might only be for newer fords though...

But i'd figure that out.
