I did the stupid trade of my chevy for a ford. I traded my 86 2wd 1/2t long bed for a 93 ford f350 4wd reg cab and a utility box. Straight up. Its an auto and 351 engine. There is a good reason though, I figure I can tool up the utility bed to chase my semi if it breaks. Still it realy sucks to loose that little chevy the body was perfect. Oh well this truck will help me make money and the chevy would have only cost me money. Ill get pics tomorrow.

That Ford should have a D60 under the front. That alone makes it worth as much as your Chevy.:doah:

I dont know, it has big hubs but the axle tube itself didnt look very big. When I looked under it the tie rods caught my eye right away as they are funky shaped, so I may have been distracted by that. It runs and drives good though. Plans for it, is to tool it up and drive it till it breaks something. Depending on how expencive the break it it may get parted out or sold/traded. I am NOT very fond of fords they always let me down, but haveing a mobil tool box seams pretty important to me.

My semi is old and worn, and although it runs and drives great, im sure it will break sooner or later. It happens, if you use/work stuff, things break and wear out. This way Ill have all my tools in one spot ready to go.

In all reality the ford should be worth alot more than the chevy. It is 7 years newer, 4wd and a 1 ton. I dont know if a utility box adds value or not.
Its an electrician contractor box, it has big doors on the front sides and inside those doors are full width trays that slide out to either side. The top sides have a full lenth box, then theres 2 large side boxes, and 2 small boxes behind the tires. It has a lid over the bed that slides forward. I will probably cut the lid off as semi tires ect. wont fit under the lid. The only thing it dont have that I wish it did is the little dividers that go inside the boxes. Those can be made simple enough though I suppose. Oh and it has a small compressor head in one of the small boxes, I dont know if it works or not yet.

Sounds like you should make the utility bed into a trailer, and part the rest out. then pull it around with a chevy.

Mount up a 3kw generator in it. I had a 6kw in my 1 ton ambulance/carpenters truck, plumbed to one of the gas tanks. Just get a cheapo elec fuel pump. That will run an air compressor, plus almost anything else you need, including a 110v welder.:D

If any major failure hppens it just may get made into a trailer. Then Ill use the front axle for a SAS on my 97 1500:haha:and sell the rest.

As soon as money starts comeing in Im gunna purchase a miller trailblazer welder/gen. That model claims to be able to gererate power and weld at the same time. On a good note, the truck and anything I buy for it will be a write off:bow: come tax time.

Not to High jack the post or anything but I gotta ask RamJet GMC about his where abouts, Milltown New Jersey is 1.5 Square miles and the chances of seeing someone from your home town online when your home town is that small is slim to none, and ereyone knew everyone. I was from Desmet Ave, 08850, anyway who are you?

A '93 F350 will for sure be a Dana 60 front. Ball joints and high pinion with reverse cut gears.

Sounds like you loved the ol' Chevy but for what you are doing this sounds like a better vehicle for you. Not to mention as stated earlier it's a 1 ton that's newer and 4x4. You can sell the whole drivetrain other than the front axle for what the axle alone would cost you.

BS.

The correct Driver's side drop for probably most 4x4's out there (IFS GM's, late Jeeps, Dodge's Rams/Durangos/Dakotas, all Fords, and others off the top of my head), high pinion (shallower driveshaft angle and the shaft and joint are up away from rocks), and reverse cut gears (stronger in a front axle application).
I forget the exact stats but the Ford D60 fronts (ball joints aside...and they're still decent pieces) are generally rated as being stronger than the equivalent GM and Dodge D60's. When Ford ordered their D60's they didn't just have Dana turn the thing around so it faced the front of the t-case and called it good.

so my neighbor has a goldmine and I don't know it???i was gonna grab one for that 88 $300.00 special f-250 i sold.it does me no good with my 79 though. ya think you could sell em?cuz i can get em.:D

They should. GM IFS guys love them for their SAS swaps.

I bet you'd get some attention if you went on some of the Michigan 4x4 forums and mentioned you had a few of those.

Just beware the 80's F350's with TTB front axles and the '99+ Super Duties didn't always get D60's. Even the F350 Super Duties sometimes got D50's until 2003.

i know about the SD fronts as i have one. but what about bolt patern? was an 8 lug an 8 lug on those?i know the SD's are in metric.i tried to use my brothers 98 wheels on mine.no deal.

Yep, the '99 Super Duties brought in the metric 8 lug. Before that any Ford 8 lug is the same as GM, Dodge, International, etc.

It is a HP d60, I looked today. The tie rods look funky but appear to be that way on purpose to clear stuff.......:dunno: Got EVERY tool on the ranch in there, WOW I had alot more than I thought. Enough tools to squat the truck about 3" :eek1::eek1::eek1::thumb:. I still have lots of room for even more. It rides ALOT better now. I didnt get any pics though. After all my errands around town and the tool collection adventure(about 4 hours) I went and helped a friend until dark:30. As I mentioned b4 I hope it lasts a while, but the first major breakdown and everything that makes it a ford will go away. Frame cut and made into a trailer.

Now on to the bad stuff. If I floor it it falls on its face and dies then comes back. The check engine light is on all the time, Exept when you floor it, it goes off until the engine recovers. The trans shifts hard and whines loudly, when it shifts from first to second it does a little shutter type thing. Only way I know how to explain the "shutter" is like a standard trans, and a warped flywheel, that feeling you get if you try to feather the clutch. And it constantly searches for gears unless I turn the OD off

NO POWER its a turd. The engine fan sounds like a damn airplane, and dont ever stop. I think the exhaust is too restricted, sounds like a mouse fart. You ever herd a mouse fart? Me either.

As far as Furds go, that should be a solid truck. Tune it up, cut the exhaust off after the y-pipe and run a less restrictive setup that eliminates the cat and factory muffler, and the thing should run much better. I think all of Furd's trannys sound like that. May want to consider a trans temp gauge and/ or cooler since you're running loaded all of the time. Those utility beds are nice to have.

I do like chevy but Fords are decent vehicles IF maintained properly Treat the ford good and it will be good to you I got one with 300,000 runs great the clutch and trans took a dump and body was bad so I scraped er drove it on the trailer. As for ford tranny's A buddys uncle has a 99 Powerstroke diesel and it has a Utility box on it. He has put a ton of miles on it and then the tranny went come to find out the P.o. F'ed the tranny up and no one could tell so he lost 2nd and 3rd gears one day. Dad owned one had 317,000 when we sold it, grandpa has had at least 5 or 6 trucks and 2 vans in the past 25 - 30 years that I know of that he positivley drove into the ground. All had 250,000 plus when he sold them, or recycled them to his 7 kids. Tune er up fix it up and dont make a trailer out of it.
