My '88 Jimmy has both doors sagging. When you lift either door at the handle while it is slightly open you can see movement. I replaced the hinge pins and bushings and there is no improvement. Is the entire hinge assembly shot? If so, where is the best place to find a replacement? Thanks!

Sounds like the common problem of the door skin welds have broken and the door sags now because of it.

The doors on my 78 actually had cracks in the door in a line along the edge of the hinge - just something else to check for.

It could be cracked welds or wallowed out pin holes like the folks here have said. Nice part is, it should be dead simple to find.
Just get a flashlight so there will be no shadows, get in good and close to the hinges with the door open, and have someone lift the door up and down at the handle end.

Wherever you see motion, that should be it. If the pins and bushings are moving in the hinge, then the holes are too big.
If the whole hinge assembly is moving on the door or post, its the welds.

Adjusting door hinges is one of the few jobs I will not do willingly. I have done too many under less than ideal circumstances.

When the hinges on my F250 started sagging a couple of years back, after 20 years of faithful service, I bought an upper and lower set.

Having no desire to try to readjust that door with someone holding it up, I went to a body shop down the road, who I knew had one of the door holders just for that.

Walked up to the counter, asked how much to replace the driver side hinges on that truck out there. I have the hinges........

He quoted me a price so high, that I could not speak. I just wanted to hit him. Turned around and walked out without a word.

I stewed about it for a couple of days. Getting madder and madder. Don't mind a profit, don't mind a little gouging maybe. But that was an insult.

He was implying I was a total moron. That stacked blond on the Carson show would have gotten a better price.

Finally rode back over there.
Walked in, repeating to myself "don't hit him".

Asked the price again. Same answer. Still did not know what to say.
Finally went back out and got the hinges.
Placed them on the counter, sarcastically said that I already had the hinges.

He glanced at them, and gave me a price several hundred dollars lower! Quite reasonable in fact.

Now, I am totally lost. Finally asked how much he got for a set of hinges. He said no, the hinges are cheap. I just did not realize that yours were bolt-ons........

Oh well, Fords are good for something I guess..... Course, probably the new ones are welded too.

I've had several body guys tell me they HATE doing hinges that have to be welded on. Like HATE, rather-have-kidney-stones-HATE-doing-them.

Hmm. Never hunted Africa, Never fishes the Amazon, Never met several people I would like to meet.

Never changed a set of weld in door hinges...........

I guess some bucket list items are better off having never been done<G>.

At our local GM dealer, they had bought a brand new wrecker, within the first year, someone let the door swing open on an incline, and the door ripped completely off the hinges. SOOO don't do that

I've got a buddy back in Michigan that is a super dooper body man. He's got Big Ugly right now and will probably be getting The Blazer later this year to work his magic on. He can do anything automotive and his bodywork is flat out great.

I asked him about doing the hinges on Big Ugly and he sorta paled and got all evasive about it...
...until he realized they bolted on. Then he didn't care.
