I'm looking for some input; for starters, I have an '89 Suburban V1500. The steering box has been worked too hard by previous owners, and it's in need of replacement. I was able to tighten it up a little using the adjuster on top, which I know is not advised, but I had far too much play in the whole thing & that procedure helped.

I was at Pick & Pull though & found a nice tight box out of a mid to late 80's Diesel Suburban... It *looks* like it should work fine, but does anyone know if there are any differences between a Diesel box & a gas box? Will this actually work if everything connects to it just fine?

Thanks,
Clay

Should be identical,I see no difference on my '82 K2500 or my '85 K10 Suburban P/S box,and they are both diesels..the P/S pump will be slightly different as it needs a larger resivoiur and two return hoses because it also powers the hydroboost, but the steering box itself shouldn't be any different..the junkyards Hollander interchange manual should confirm that it will fit too, have them check it for you...around 1980 the steering box hoses went to metric O ring fittings instead of flared SAE fittings,so you'll need to stay with one after 1980,unless you feel like adapting hoses...

I don't think gas vs. diesel makes a difference, but I believe 2WD vs. 4WD does.

Thanks guys!

I'll be looking into this soon. Box did come out of a 4x4 diesel, at least a mid 80's truck, so hopefully it will bolt right in.

Thanks again,
Clay

I was assuming your truck was 4wd--the steering boxes are different on a 2wd ,but I think you can swap pitman arm shafts between 2 and 4wd boxes,I'm pretty sure thats what guys going to a "crossover" steering setup do...There is no difference between diesel and gas engined trucks steering boxes that I know of,but its best to check with a Hollander manual to see if it interchanges..sometimes they dont list things that WILL fit too, with minor tweaking !..
