Top notch seems raised then sunken. Others are felt but don't catch a finger nail. How deep? Does it catch a finger nail?
Wasn't leaking. I'm rebuilding it since it's outta the truck. Don't know what to do about thatThat’s where the seals ride. Where was it leaking from?
It is a pretty serious gouge in the bore. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a whole new gearbox. I'm only into it for the price of the rebuild kit plus time spent cleaning. The PSC gearboxes are quite pricey but the rest of my steering setup is from them. I'm guessing if I take care of it once I get it I should be okay. I can either sell the old guts from my steering box or keep them as spare parts should I Ever Need them. The Teflon rings and rubber O-rings were fine when I took them out of the unit. I have no idea what could have gone wrong.I just rebuilt my Saginaw steering box and the inside was smooth and shiny. I didn't think to take pictures of the inside of the case or I would share. Sorry.
But, I would say that isn't normal for wear. Especially considering there are no metal parts directly against the walls. How were the Teflon and rubber O-Rings? Maybe debris go into the box and circulated a few times before the fluid carried it out of the bore? It looks like that is the end where the PS hoses connect (opposite of the piston end).
The pictures don't look bad so probably doesn't affect performance of the box though.
