Is roadsalt in and of itself harmful to cars?

The roadcrews around here put down salt BEFORE it snowed. Is this harmful to the truck if it hasn't been mixed with any moisture----snow, rain etc.?

Salt itself I don't think is, but it attracts moisture and that will rot the cars and trucks to death. They put salt down before it snow, so when it does it liquefies and keeps from snow building or freezing.

click my plow machine build in sig line below and read up on first page and early days of the old truck . . . . lots of pics to show what salt and de-ice liquided does over time.

me I take salt any day over de-ice chemicals .

Sure, dry salt is the least bad of salt on your car. It's like asking how much poison you want to eat.

Automobiles are like snails when it comes to any type of salt or snow melting chemicals getting on them..ALL of them destroy cars, some worse than others, but all are bad news to frames, bolts, and other parts..

We had all of 2" of snow today and some black ice Monday morning, they dumped enough salt to tint the roads white --I think I can hear my truck rotting in the driveway.
