I have a 10 bolt front and a 12 bolt rear and was wondering if they have the same ratio. The rear has 14 teeth on pinion and 43 on the ring. the front has 13 on the pinion and 40 on the ring. When i divide them i come up with 3.07...... I know they come out to be the same but why is there a difference between the teeth count on both but still come out to be the same? So i guess i need assurance there the same ratio before i put them in . I have a 1990 Blazer .

They are the same ratio, the difference in the number of teeth has to do with the design of the differential along with the size of the components.

thats the beauty of ratios my friend. the numbers don't have to match, to make the same ratios. and as long as the ratios match with in 5% or so, it doesn't matter what the numbers actually are.

So I can run my 3.75 14BFF with my 3.73 10bolt front?
