You can decode the numbers stamped on the tube to determine what year the axle was made. It won't make much difference, except whether it has the neck-down axles or not...and those could have been changed out already.

All steel internal parts so they are way more durable thanthe average aftermarket potmetal hub. The inner gear also has enough meat to be broached to 35 spline. The only thing stronger would be flanges.
