Funny, his sleigh looked just like an Estes truck.

Holy crap! That is badazz! I was expecting a much smaller one. That's one hell of a Christmas gift. Congrats!

Thats bad aas man. I want me a BIG welder too. DAMN there pricy though. Good for you man.

I am eying up the helmet. Where at in Pflugerville? I'm moving to Austin soon. If you see a heavily tattooed guy borrowing your stuff don't worry it is just me ;)

That's a Speedglas 9100XX. My first helmet was a traditional Huntsman with the flip up outer lens for grinding. Loved that helmet and went through three or four sets of headgear before I had to retire it due to leaks.

I replaced it with one of the early Miller electronics. After the initial thrill of the auto darkening it succumbed to a multitude of problems of varying severity from mildly irritating to slam it against the floor and back over it with a steamroller infuriating.

I replaced my Miller with a top-of-the-line Jackson. Initially the electronics in the Jackson just flat out smoked the Miller but after the first year of use the number of things that pissed me off about the Jackson was exceeding the Miller that preceded it.

A buddy of mine has had the Speedglas 9100X for some time. A few months ago he needed a very small item TIG welded and asked if I would do it. I borrowed his Speedglas and fell in love. So far superior to anything I had ever tried before. The shield, electronics, the headgear! The headgear is just incredible.

I’m hopefully optimistic that the Speedglas will join the ranks of my treasured Huntsman rather than the ruts of the prior two attempts.

I've yet to invest in one but the few times I've welded with a Speedglas I loved it. The controls on some of the models are so nice. The adjustment levels for reaction times, sensitivity, the side windows, so many nice features to be had. Sooner or later I will pick one up.

Come to think of it, my current neighbor is a 3M rep... I wonder.

The side windows are very nice, you dont feel like your head is in a bucket. As funny as this sounds, you can weld while upside down and your helmet doesnt fall off. when you put the hood up, it stays up until you want it down. you can operate all the controlls with a gloved hand.

Time to go see if that neighbor is neighborly. :-)

I've heard of some out of position welding before, but that takes the cake! :thumb:

Shoot you weren't messing around, I expected to open this thread and see another little garage welder!

On the topic of Speedglas I have one that I bought when I started taking a bunch of welding classes at school and I've been more than happy with it. It's comfy enough to wear all night for class and I've never had any problems with it.

This weekend I got the spool gun hooked up and ran a few beads on some 1/4 aluminum. I had purchased a high frequency unit of questionable condition some time ago anticipating the purchase of the Trailblazer. I got it hooked up and after repairing some shorted and some open circuits in the remote control lead I was able to run a test bead on aluminum and mild steel. I'll run a couple passes on some stainless steel tomorrow.
Had a guy buy my 12VS wire feeder and ordered my 12RC to replace it. Plenty of power to run the plasma cutter but I'll need to wire a few welder outlets to a plug for the 50A receptacle before I can test it.
My water cooled torch should get here this week, I’ll need to get all the plumbing worked out for that and I think I’ll make a cart for the Coolmate 4 and high frequency unit out of some 3/16 aluminum.
