Hey, my friend did an SAS swap on a 98 burb.. its a 1/2ton so it has 4l60e with a 208 that has a front output slip yoke. Much like the rear 208's of our 80's trucks. He is stuck on what kinda front driveshaft to make. I told him see if a ford 208 can work on there so he can get a normal bolt on flange old 208. The truck has a high pinion dana 60 front end in it as well. I did a quick search and i couldnt come up with anything. He isn't into the forums so much to learn and ask questions so i thot i'd help him out. Anyone wanna give ideas? thanks guys!

oh a pic of it to keep you guys happy.

haha jim looks excited, but i was talking with him and maybe there is a SYE kit basically like we can get for our 208s except for the front in this case. is there anything like that made?

I don't think thats a 208. It's a NP 243 or 246 used in the late models. If its Autotrac I believe thats the 246. My Tahoe had the 243 and I don't recall it having a slip yoke for the front output.

Easiest thing to do would be to find a NP243 from another late model GM preferably with a floor shifter, or a Ford T-case in that case I vote for a 205:wink1:

o ya i forgot to mention it is a 246.

Slip-yoke front output? I've never seen that before. Couldn't you use a driver's drop np-241 from an IFS chevy? Then get a jb conversion sye for the rear. Or better yet, a ford 205 would be the best way to go

ya i actually just found thanks to google, a guy on pirate swapped out his 246 to a 241,(the 241s came on fullsize trucks from 96-99 with 4.3s and 4l60e) so it will have a front shaft like a 208 which is what he needs really. thanks for the help too. maybe he'll like the 205 idea too.

i went underneath it to see for myself...

its originally an IFS truck, so the front driveshaft doesnt need to slip at all cept for the occasional engine movement and for installation purposes

he picked up a high angle shaft with a slip yolk on it, im just glad he didnt put it on (didnt fit) cuz if the slip to the case went in too far, like if it compressed all the way, the flange would go up into the case and theres no room to spin, would chew it to all hell
