I would guess its been on here before, I looked through first 20pages and didnt find any. I am lookin to do a sas on my 97 k1500. Mostly DD but gets used in the field and offroad every weekend. not hardcore rock crawlin or anything just the mud and bombin around in woods. prolly just going to run a D44 high pinion up front from a bronco or such. my questions are has anyone done this before, or know of anyone who has? What is needed to convert the 5 lug to standard 6 lug?

www.fullsizechevy.com and www.gmfullsize.com both have tons of information about the sas for old body style trucks. it is a common swap now adays that people can perform in there drive way

search sky manufacturing or off road unlimited on google they both sell complete hanger kits for these trucks

if your looking for a high pinion dana 44 youl need to find 1 from a 78/79 ford 3/4 ton f-150 and broncos were low pinion, and had coil sprung front ends which will make your sas alot more complicated, and no longer a bolt on affair. 78/79 3/4 tons sere also leaf sprung, and i do beleive most sas kits are designed to work with axles with those spring pearch spacing

your factory steering will also not work with a solid axle you will need to run cross over

i hope you either have lots of cash or a pile of chevy/ford parts laying around cause these swaps can get pricey
