i was talking w/ my cousin today, who owns a 78-79 ford 1/2 ton 4x4...it has a hp44 in the front.

he also owns a 85 k5, that has older model 3/4 axles in it d44 w/ external hubs, not sure of year

we were talking about my 96 tahoe, that i want to sas.....i told him i needed a front end from a ford to go in my tahoe, i said i would prefer an 8 lug so i could put 1 of my 8 lug rearends in it to have a matching bolt pattern, he told me he had a spare hp44 for his ford, but its a 1/2 ton...i said something to the effect of, ''i'd have to figure out how to change the bolt pattern to at least a chevy 6 lug...

he told me that his ford hp44 and his 3/4 ton d44 had the same bearings/seals in them, and he said you prolly could just pull the rotor off the ford hp44 and put chevy rotor on it, be it a 6 or 8 lug...

can any1 verify this, would it be as simple as putting chevy hubs on the ford spindles?

i know all you have to do is put 8 lug hubs and rotors on a 1/2 ton 10b to make it 8 lug, try and find out what year that axle is and if that came off a f150.buy hubs and rotors for say a f250? im guessing that will be a HP44 with 8 lugs.

i understand that, but he's sayin the ford and chevy d44 rotors use the same bearings and seals, i'm try'n to see if i can put chevy 6 lug rotors on ford spindles, cause i have a 6 lug 14b that will direct bolt up in the rear of the 96

I've never done it but this is how I understand it:

The inner c's and balljoints are the same. Everything from the knuckles out is different between IHC, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, etc.

You can use Chevy knuckles, brakes and hubs on a Ford front axle as long as you swap everything from the knuckle out.

Don't forget that said Ford axle is probably pretty wide for a Tahoe.

well the ford axle is gonna have the wedges for radius arms, which means a no go on your truck... but what you could do is take the knuckle and everything off of the chevy axle and use it on a ford to get everything to work IF the for outers are a different length like they are between chevy and ford 60s. i know all chevy d44/10blt stuff swaps over with the exeception of a few years of small bearing d44 stuff but for that a bigger bearing spindle swaps right in
