Saw this on my way home from work

Those aren't H1's. He's got Michelin or Goodyear HEMTT tires on HEMTT wheels on that thing.

Must have an adapter for the 8 by HUGE bolt pattern the HEMTT uses.
Extreme Offroad just did that conversion on their last show. Also looks like the front and rear springs share the same mount under the door.

I give them credit for not using leaf springs that fit the stock mounts.

Ever seen 22" lift 48" front lift springs?

Literally a U.

You can see the adapter.

At least he painted the wheels the right color.

Gotta keep in mind guys, remember how many Prius and Civic driving folks look at our bashed up rigs and wonder the exact same thing, why would anyone drive that rusting, hacked up half a$$ed POS.... Atleast he is driving something that catches your attention, regardless of its practicality of it. Thats the beauty of our sport.

I was thinking the same thing. What we see when we look at that is what most people see when they look at a K5 on 37's.

Having said that, I think most of us here are trying to make practical rigs that are some compromise between on-road and off-road capability. I'm not seeing this thing being anywhere on that continuum. Maybe there's some mud situation? But I don't think so after seeing a purpose built mud rig on "dirt every day" on youtube. That thing was fairly low, high horsepower, moderate sized tires.

Even if he has a D60 front to match that 14FF rear his axles are too small for those tires/wheels. They are only about 46" but FAR heavier than a Swamper or Mickey T on normal 8 lug wheels.

I will go against the grain of the rest of the garage commandoes and say I like it :D

I would sport it over a stock K5 Blazer any day of the week, and for what he uses it for, which I imagine is probably mall crawling, bar hopping, and girl catching, im betting it works better than 60% of the trucks on this site, so technically he isn't doing bad. And it could always be worse, it could be a poor 2wd with 26in rims on it like Truckin has in its pages all so often.

Funny how everyone is bashing this truck when there are tons of guys on here rolling bigger rigs than that. Is it practical? Not at all, do I have to drive it? nope.

Nevermind the time and money spent on it, hell he may just be into big trucks with no intention but driving it 15mph down the local roads.

I agree with you guys. I'll stand by the fact that I happen to really like the way the old GM trucks look with a big lift and huge tires. Practicality is out the window, hell yea but I don't mind admitting I think that thing looks pretty cool. I've definitely seen worse that's for sure.

Somebody put a lot of time and effort into that thing and who knows if it is the owner or if he farmed it out. Regardless, somebody has some good fab skill and ingenuity to do a project like that.

I will say I have never dogged on it.

Not practical and my experience with 38's on a truck I didn't really need them on taught me 33's are just fine.

I grew up with a 80's style 4x4 club called Atomic Bad Boys 4x4 in my hometown. The shortest truck was probably 8" of lift on 35's and most were 39's and bigger with 12" or more of lift. Yep, 80's style trucks with bright colors, 12 shocks, and lots of chrome but hey, they looked bad ass.
If I'm ever stupid rich with a huge (and tall) garage you can bet I'd love to have a big truck like this.

I dunno about the heavy as **** tire/wheel combo though.

Anybody who says "invested" with regards to their car needs psychoanalysis. And is wrong. It's "sunk", as in "I have sunk $12K into this 4x4 Batmobile abomination knowing full well I will never see half of that back." :deal:

Aaron.... Our. Resident voice of reason. :haha:

Also the voice of experience, particularly with the recent turnover in vehicles at the Emu motorpool.

Done et mah shorts selling the sixpack, sigh.

And the lady at the credit union told me how much my new Maxima depreciated just by driving it off the lot. Which, yes, Issam, is why you never buy new cars ... but, all going well, in ten years I'll have been the only owner of the car and I will have enjoyed every dollar of that depreciation.

Whether you like what it looks like from 50 feet is personal opinion....I have seen lots of rigs that look good from that distance but are poor crap when you get closer (hence the term 50 footer). I get a kick out of the comments saying somebody spent a lot of time and money on this thing and had good fabrication skills. Maybe they did, maybe not as there is no way to tell from this picture. Could be really clean and well done (or at least as well done as possible) or could be a hack job. How it drives on the road is the same thing, could be decent or could be a death trap over 15 mph.
