I got a deal on both of them. $50 for a .30 over 400 block, needs to be tanked and cleaned, then can be built.

Got a 427TD for $300. Was told it ran, rear blew out of it, took tranny then junked it. I could probly sell the LPG stuff for what I paid for the motor, hoping at least. I can get a 454 crank for cheap, but need special rods and pistons to make it work. OR run it the way it is.

With the 400, I can run it with the current stuff, and be done. With the 427 need to get the 454 TBI stuff, which I have, just need to install it.

Either way, it's not gonna be super cheap, but doable I think.

Crap, ran out of time, havta go to work. More later....

Got thinking about it at work, and gonna wait till I get the motor first. I need to figure out how to mount the accesories, and wait to hear back bout the 454TBI stuff. If I can't get that stuff back, might go with the 400. I could also sell the motor for a couple bucks, they are starting to become popular with the dragstrip crowd......

My opinion is to avoid a bored over 400 but there are many here who will argue that point.

427T is highly desirable as a stroker platform. If you have the cash, it's a nice way to go.

Can't remember if it was this board or another, but this topic came up. IF the motor is bored more than .30 over, then there might be overheating or cracking issues. I've run alot of 400s, and only 1 ever had any issues, and that was .40 over, sitting in traffic it would slowly creep over 220.

The same yard where the LPG427 is, there are at least 2 more 427TDs, and buddy here wants both of them. He has one in his dragcar, wants more as spares and parts. At one time you couldn't give them away, but with the aftermarket the way it is,you can build a killer motor with one of these...

my friend has a 427td...that thing was a torque monster. its still good but he destroyed the truck that its in and built an SAS 99 burb but when he used it, he did his research on it and found out he could bore and stroke it out to i think a 540? with 560ft lbs and 500hp. but stock it would do 4 wheel burnouts in dirt with 38 boggers. welded in the front and detroit in the rear he put it in low and then rode the brake at idle and each axle would break loose separately. :doah::D

You can go crazy with one of these, but right now I don't plan on doing that. I wanted to run a 454 crank/pistons, but with a .400" longer rod and the cheapest I've found the rod was $500. That was the easy part, finding a piston to work with that combo and not be a 1/2 mile tall dome, that is the b!tch.

Some people argue that a strong SB will pull just as strong as a BB, but I strongly disagree. I've had both, and there is ZERO comparison!!!! My old truck was the perfect example, TBI454, TH400, 40" boggers, 3.73 gears, and would still pull a house down. Could lite the tires up going around corners. My Blazer can't even do a linelock....
