I'm looking at a set of heads for the 350 in my 84 k5 there 67-68 heads with "no accessory holes" I guess these are for the alternator ac ect. is there a way around this or are these heads useless to me?

Those heads will be 327 or smaller engine and pretty useless unless you devise a different method for attaching your accessories.

I made a set of 462 (fuely) heads work on my 77. No AC, just Alt and PS pump on the sides. While it is do-able, might be better to find another good set of heads with accessory holes

Which 350s came w/o accessory hole heads?
I know I put them on 350s, but I thought 67 or 68 was the last year for accessory holes?...?

The heads can be drilled for the assecories. I would check mortec.com and look at the casting numbers and vehicle they came in. These could be a desirable smaller chamber head. There are other brackets available to run your acces but they might be difficult to find/make.

The set that I had was going to be drilled by the machine shop untill I had them magnafluxed and found they were both cracked. The auto machine shop never warned me or mentioned these shouldn't be drilled so I dunno.

Yea they are desirable heads in my opinion 64cc 2.02 and 1.6... better then my current 76cc 1.94 1.50 heads.... I would consider having a machine shop drill holes but I don't really have that kind of money these heads were just a good deal... I was thinking maybe theres like a custom bracket assembly to run the acc but I dought it will be strong enough especially since I plan on running a York compressor....

I dunno if you can buy a bracket assembly for holeless heads. The engine I bought from my friend had someof them on there all ready. One was home made. IIRC the holes were gonna be like $25 or $30 for them to drill and tap them. I'd def ask about the water jacket thing. Make sure these heads aren't cracked.

You can buy a bracket for your alt. It'll place it on the drivers side. For the york, I would just build a bracket. Tie it in to the block somehow, maybe even on the frame. I don't like the frame idea that much because of engine movement, but if you run a belt for the compressor only, it won't really matter if it's a little loose once in a while, it'll still pump air most of the time. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a dd though. Ghetto I know, but money gets tight and heads get expensive.

that's being pretty picky, man. ha

i guess they aren't your best choice, then.

Pretty picky huh? I just speak the truth. People also forget that those heads DO NOT have a squarely machined surface to accept a square and flush fit even if you did drill the heads and dealt with the water passage issue. Just to clarify myself, only one of the holes would enter a water passage.

Don't get me wrong either, they were excellent heads for back in the day but there are MUCH better heads available today than there were 60 years ago. For someone doing a restoration that used that head they are a valuable head and even more so "IF" they were 2.02/1.6" fuelie heads.

For what's available aftermarket wise, it's hard to mess with.

Or a decent set of stock open-chambers, they are cheap and plentyful.

Every 350 head ever made has accessory holes. Even the very first 350 in 1967 had accessory holes.

This is incorrect, no 350 heads in 67 or 68 had accessory holes in the ends of the heads. But, you are correct in that much better are available now.

These heads can be used, preferably with a short water pump. The A/C attaches to the exhaust manifold as does the alternator. PS pump attaches low on the drivers side to the block. But changing all that would cost more than decent set of later heads. There really isn't any reason to use those unless they're free.

I'm not so sure you want to argue with me about this. Being that i've been an automotive machinist for 21 years and have quite the experience with the GM products i think you would lose a bet in a heart beat.

I don't think you want to make that bet. No small block passenger car heads had accessory bolt holes before 69. 350's in 67 had head casting number 3890462 early ie before spring 67 and 3917291 later in the year and throughout 68. Neither or those casting numbers had accessory holes. Learn something new every day don't we. I'll see your 21 years and raise you 18.
