I rebuilt my first motor and want to hear it run. or watch it blow up! Only problem is my trucks completely down to the frame. Once I mount it hopefully (wed) there has got to be a relatively simple way to fire the bitch up, right?

Old harness
Battery
radiator

I need to know if it runs!

Thanks guys!

I wouldn't worry about the rad, I ran mine without one for a few mins and it didn't get close to being hot, should be able to wire it up enough to run it for a few mins. good luck.

Are you just wanting to hear it run ? I wouldn't start it until you are ready to do the break in prodedure for a new motor .

Unless you don't have a new cam , bearings , rings , etc .

Agreed. If a new motor, you need the radiator hooked up, along with fan, etc. Need to make sure the radiator is bolted in pretty solidly too, just propping up could have it falling into the fan. Break the engine in on manifolds if you have headers.

If this is a TBI('88) you'll need considerably more stuff hooked up to get it to run, like the entire harness. :(

New motor run-in only, about 1/2 hour. Search for the proper way to do it, otherwise rebuild rebuild, real soon.

its tbi. new cam pistons, etc....and I only want to turn it over. No break in.

If its better to wait I'll have to wait.

Definatly wait, connect everything look it over... twice... three times then stop and do it over again the second day. make sure everything is perfect. then when everything is perfect check it again, because something is wrong. Nothing is perfect but once you are satisfied fire that sucker up, and enjoy the sound it makes break it in and change the oil. Then finish your truck.

P.S. If it freezes in the winter and you dont have the truck up and running make sure you get all the coolant out so it doesn't freeze and expand and crack your block. I have seen this before, either keep it warm all winter or keep it drained.
