Hey guys I am needing some help. I am putting a semi built 355 with a high volume oil pump in a 1987 K5 and it will be used for woods and rocks. I am pretty confident that I will need a high volume oil pan but my question is this - What is everyone running that clears the front drive shaft that's around 7-8 quarts capacity? Thanks for any and all help on this issue, also if you don't think I will need a larger pan please tell my your experiences. Thanks again guys.

As long as the level is correct it's ok.

The only time I lost oil pressure off road was driving off Rock Chucker, close to rolling over forward
 
You can use a 2 qt. oil filter to add some capacity ,the filter wont hang down any lower than the pan does..
If I remember correctly a Wix 51794 is the # for the 2 qt version...it was used on 2 ton and larger trucks often..
 
If your worried about it get an accumulator.

No need for an extra capacity pan.

Might want to reconsider the high volume oil pump too. I used think that was the way to go until I talked to some guys who had been building motors longer than I had been alive.
 
I've used HV in race car applications, but constant high RPM is the norm.

Yes, save your money for lockers!

A lot of people think they need a high-volume pump, but for 99% of engine applications, a stock capacity will do just fine. I doubt the high volume will hurt anything in your application, unless you plan on spending most of your time on the high side of the tach.
