im looking into geetting a set of scales that i can use at home...i talked to a buddy of mine with a race car and he said his only go up to 1k a corner...he told me i could get some grain scales but dont know a whole lot about them...i m expecting to spend about 1000 for them so i understand how much they cost

What are you wanting to weigh and how often? I have a 70ft truck scale that I use for my business and also run it for higher for anyone wanting to weigh, for a fee.

Look locally for a public scale, if you aren't looking to weigh something over and over of course. Should only cost 7-10$ for a scale cert. weight.

weighed mine this weekend at a local landscape and rockyard business..

Digital scale,,,front axle / rear axle / total weight.

They were diggin' the truggy as I unloaded and loaded it,,
and I climbed it up a pile of rocks for them !! :D

The owner said no charge,,,but I gave the dude a 20 anyway,,,It was worth it to me...;)

What did it weigh?

What did it weigh?
2960 on the front
2320 for the rear
5280 total with me in it

subtract 375 for my fat ass

4905 total weight

I needed the front to rear weight bias for ORD....
( custom spring packs on the way soon )

I knew a guy that was a drag racer and he built a set of scales using 4 small
hydraulic rams ,,maybe 1 or 2 inch tall that he attached a 0-1000 PSI gauge.

He filled each ram half way with fluid and screwed on the gauge.

He made a top and bottom plate out of aluminum and bolted it to the top and bottom of each ram and placed it under each tire.

I'm not sure if the PSI on the gauge = actual pounds in weight, but it gave him a baseline to work from.

I think he spent less than 400.00

Elevator Grain scales around these parts leave them on day and night. You want a weight, drive across.

Anything like that in your area?

there are not really any places like that but im trying to get away from having to load it up everytime i want to put it on the scales...the scales i looked at say they hold 1500 per pad which is overkill for what im about to start building :) but i want to be able to use theese on other trucks as well like fullsizes

Stone Quarries and as said grain elevators will do it for free around here. In Ohio license plates for comm Trucks are done by weight. Some trucking companies have scales too. I know truck stops have them also....

Only other thing might be find a DOT officer and befriend them.

Portable scales that do a wheel weight.

Look up portable truck scales. Also check state surplus auctions. Talk to a DOT enforcement officer and see when they are upgrading.

A 300 pound bathroom scale and a simple lever with a calculater and presto you have a wheel scale. BTW an 8:1 lever will give you 2400 pounds capacity....google levers:wink1:

$1500 just to weight your truck

Excellent

i want to be able to weigh it often at diffrent points in the build

In high school physics class we weighted my truck with a tire guage, four pieces of paper, a pencil, and a tape measure. Came within 50 lbs of actual weight too. All you need is surface area that the tires contact the ground (paper and pencil outline), the air pressure in the tire, and plug the #'s into a formula.
