The back rest on front seats out of my 91 Blazer fold foward. Right now I don't have to pull the lever for them to fold, they do it on there own. When I do pull the lever they are still under spring pressure and the do pull back down. What's the probably reason? I pulled the plastic covers and nothing looks broke or missing, but I don't really know what I'm looking for.

I can't remember how mine work. I'll look at them and post up after work if this is still unanswered.

Mine are like that in my 89 I have some other seats from an 89 I should go see if they do it or not

You know, I seem to recall the seats in my M1009, which would be an '84 K5, being like that. I thought they were broken or the military got weird seats, but that sounds like what it had. (I've since sold it or I'd go check.)

I know on my 85 Jimmy the seat back is fixed. So I guess the folding front seat was an option.

my 86 is the same, I hoped to put my 87 seats into my 86 but I think the bottom mounting points were different.

Also on my 85 the passenger seat lifts and tilts forward for passengers to get in the back. In my 91 it folds and slides forward. I'm sure those are the only 2 options they had for that.

The seats lock up when you stop short, like the seat belts. Other times they fold freely.

The rearward lever looks like it might be a release for the inertia lock mentioned earlier for egress after an accident.

Mine act the same as most have described above and my lever is for reclining.

I think I tried to recline, and I don't remember it reclining. When I get home I'll see if it reclines

The sping for the lever on my driver's seat is missing, so I have it tied down with wire. When it comes loose, I end up driving in a very odd position until I can pull over ant secure it again.

Mine act the same way. When I got them I thought they were broken, but tearing into them it's obvious that there is nothing in there designed to hold them fixed, except the intertia lock. It's very convenient for the kids getting in and out. When you are moving around in the back seat/bed area, it's easy to mistake the seat backs for some kind of solid support - a mistake that can be both dangerous and hilarious to watch.
