So time has come for me to buy a nice paint gun. I plan to use it for single stage urethane and clear coat. I want something that can way out paint my ability :haha: I'm trying to stay under $500, but for I would spend more if necessary for a really good gun....

Right now I have a devilbiss finishline, sata mini jet 4, and a cheapo harbor freight for filler primer...

The main one I have found that seems to be a great value is the Sagola 4600 extreme. Some people are swearing by them, while others say they are not worth buying.... I can buy one with 2 different air caps 1 for hvlp and 1 for clear coat and it is less than 500 shipped.

I'm also looking at the Iwata supernova models, but there are so many different ones. Some for base coat, some for clear coat, and some for water based. It's so confusing. Plus they are a little over what I was wanting to spend...

I prefer to just buy 1 gun and then swap jets or air caps if necessary to go from single stage to clear coat.... Anyone have any suggestions?

I have one of these and love it. I can spray any thing through it. The clean up is soooooo easy. Toss the liners, no cleanup. For not spraying in a booth in perfect environments, it works as well as any thing else I have used.

You can get smaller cups and liners also. The disposable lid for the cups have a built in strainer.

@ryoken do you have any input?

The more I research that sagola, the more I like the reviews. Most people prefer it over a sata... a lot of people overseas use them . And it seems like it is a great gun for clear coat.

haven't heard anything about the Sagola... I hear good things about the accusprays that Wade listed, but have never sprayed with them..... I actually use a couple different cheapie Astro's for my gravity feed stuff currently.. ;)

but I have used both a teckna pro lite and an Iwata Super nova in the past at my last marina.. both are absolute killa guns, but a bit out of your price range.. the super nova is a bit closer... I have heard the Devilbiss GTI's are a real nice gun too, but haven't used one... think they run upper $400's iirc... you may wanna also check some of Iwata's more moderately priced units.. I hear the 5660's and 5640's are both very good guns, and i think more in line with your price range...

thank you I appreciate it. I do like the way that 3m gun looks for easy clean up. And it looks really versatile.

I'll also check out the guns you listed. I wish I had a decent paint shop in my area that I could go handle a few guns before I spend that kind of money... But the closest paint shop is about 2 hours away... and for a good sized shop one it's almost 3 hours.

the techna would be my fave, of course the priciest... that gun was badarse IMO... I've never sprayed with a Sata.. I hear they can be amazing, but for the weekend warrior, they aren't always the best choice...
