I almost feel like I want a wrap.. like a 1", 2" wide leather/pleather long wrap, that you could space accordingly.. but the 2 wide areas concern me.. I don't even know if they make such a thing... just don't want some slippy thing that's moving around on there..
 
The pictures that I found on fleabay showed them just leaving the area over the spoke ends unattached. This was on a four spoke, I don't imagine that this idea would play well with wide spokes like those.
 
Ive used a couple of the stitch up type and like them the best. A stretch fit untied cover tends to move back and forth in your hand (around the diameter of the wheel) but is relatively secure from moving around the wheel.
 
The cheap, $5 spandex one at Walmart is actually awesome. My wife has had one on her van a few years now. Doesn't slide, doesn't really spin around it front to back, will contour to the different diameters of the wheel, etc.

I had one on my old rav also. Pretty much forgot it was even on there after a while.

I had to do the wrap to a car I had in college (79 Cutlass Cruiser Wgn). Wasn't worth the leather wrap so I used the vinyl. Using the wrap, you'll have to leave it open where the spokes are run the tie strap behind the steering wheel, continuing the lace until the next spoke. I never had any problems with the wrap where it wasn't laced. You might be able to glue it down with Gorilla glue or something similar.
