Since I realized the frame rails go straight back instead of flaring out like the newer frames do, and the rear cab mounts are pretty identical to a standard truck frame, I thought why not put the C20 cab/clip on it instead and use it as my new playtoy.

So, with a '74 frame and an '80 cab, everything should be a bolt on, right? No fabbing a rear mount, right? I don't want to get everything off and ready to go on the frame and find out I have to do mod work unless I know ahead of time.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yes it will bolt right up...

Yep! Mine looks exactly like yours. I'm even doing the double crossmember and skidplate, too. I just installed 6" Skyjacker front springs today. Gonna wait til I get the 454/465/205 on the K30 frame sold so I can swap the D60 under this frame. The 14FF is coming out of the C20 I'm robbing the cab for.

I love it when a plan comes together!

That's awesome Wes. I don't remember you ever having a dedicated trail rig. I wouldn't be surprised if you did, I just don't remember.

Never had one. Well, never built one, I mean. Everything I've built were nothing but pure sand, hill and mud trucks. These trucks were just simple add-ons like lifts, tires, etc.
This "project" will be something I'm looking to keep and possibly finally have something that may be trail worthy of joining the CK5 gang at Blazer Bashes, etc.
I'm tired of being stuck at home as a webwheeler.

I'm thinking of a steel flatbed for mine, also. Won't think about a design until I get the cab on the frame first.

Is aluminum cheaper than steel? Or vice versa?

steel is cheaper.but i don't want the weight.those plates are about 80 lbs a piece.:eek1: but they will be strong enough to hold the spare tire.i'm trying to figure out where i want to put the fuel cell.my tank is seriously exposed.if i get rear ended i might just as well be driving a crown vic.

Still deciding what to do. I had thought about scrapping the tank and using the empty keg in the shed in which I would mount right behind the cab and a spare tire after that.
Aluminum bed would be light enough with the keg and tire to balance out the weight, wouldn't it? As you said, I don't want to get too heavy with a steel bed either.

:haha: thats what i'm planning on, i thought about a cell but after watching horse power and the rat rod. it would be cheaper to have a kegger party and never return the keg.i had to weld a bumper under the bumper to protect the gas tank from a rear end accident.i use the jeep principle for weight.when we went to the mounds a few years ago,i drove my SD. JR wasn't done yet. Luke(blue85) and TJ and a few others with us had full sizes.we made most of the stuff with a little effort. the jeeps went right over it like it was paved.:eek1: so i started stripping JR and it has worked well.my friend has a 86 bronco with 38's and a 460. he got stuck while i sat 10 foot behind him. he was pulled out and i went through with 36's in 2wd!!  they tried hard to get me stuck but to no avail.  and i have a 12 in the rear and a 10 in the front with open diffs.:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:
