Ok boys, help a brother out...my wife is into the idea of getting a new car, and I think I almost have her convinced that towing duties are a must...here is where i need help. The reality is that we will only tow the K5 a few times a year, not every weekend. Also, taking two kids safely to school etc...is obviously really important. Here is my question, will the Tahoe pull a K5, was there a diesel Excursion that will pull the K5? Any other thoughts besides the obvious F250, K2500 RAM 2500?

ive seen tahoes pull built jeeps and the like, no reason it couldn't do a k5. Its not ideal, but itll work.

all the 3/4 tons will have the beefier parts but fuel costs go up on them too over a half ton typically, and will ride harsher than a half ton, which the woman may care about.

theres a lot that will work for you, but its gonna have to be down to you and your woman to figure out what will actually work best. You are definately on the right track, but maybe yall need to go do some test drives, etc to see if she might be able to find a 3/4 ton that yall both like...that would be ideal in the end.

I love my Ram 2500 and it is also a Hemi. It tows my K5 with no problems, almost too well. I wish that I could have bought the Diesel but the boss backed out of it.

The Hoe should pull it fine. Having a good trailer with electric brakes and having the load balanced properly helps out tremendously. You'll want to install a tranny cooler and probably a larger capacity tranny fluid pan for insurance sake.

The new Turdras. Ours pulls my Jimmy fine, and get a whopping 9mpg while doing it.

i have a 7.3 Diesel Excursion 2002 ilike it but 10000 is the rated max but i know it will do more

Its basically the same thing as a F350 which is what I tow with and I would also like to find my wife a 7.3 X for trips that the bed of the truck and/or gooseneck isn't needed.

What's the budget? Obviously a duramax (as you stated) would be a sweet setup... safe, reliable, tow anything you want and still get great mileage compared to a BB gasser...

I have a friend @ church that tows with an excursion stuffed with the V10 and it does great...its lifted with bags out back to level things out and he pulls stuff all the time. So if you're thinking Excursion you don't have to find a diesel... either would work.

I tow with a Big block vortec and although it pulls really well the mileage (loaded and unloaded) sucks... even unloaded I only get about 12mpg (if I keep my foot out of it). So if its going to be a dd I'd probably vote diesel for the sole reason of mileage.

Well the last trip to truckhaven with spuratic death wobble convinced my wife I needed a tow rig.
I found a 03 f250 supercab 4x4 with 6.0 at a good price. I chose a diesel becouse I have a heavy ass burb, I want to get an inbed camper and everywhere from here to wheel is uphill. I read that 3/4t gassers could do the job but I just wanted the reassurance it will without any worrys. I normally get 16-18mpg around here which is better than my old yoter.

good luck

If you are looking for a SUV then look into a suburban or Excursion. By the owners manual a tahoe should not be pulling something that heavy. I am sure it can do it though. If you can find a 2500 suburban with either the 8.1 or the 6.0 they have a great tow rating. They are the same as a 2500 pickup with the same motors. An excursion with the deisel would be the ultimate but one with the V-10 would do the job as well. Good luck finding any HD SUV though. They are not made anymore so people dont give them up easily. I know the new suburban has a 2500 model but it lost alot of its towing ability with the new body style and you will have to order one most likely. If you only plan on towing a few times a year and staying fairly close to home you may get by with a tahoe?

The Suburban/Yukon XL (2500), or Expedition XL may be an option also if you are thinking new.

Another route is a full size van (8-15 passanger). You can get them with a deisel and they came in the 2500/3500 HD models. I think that will be my next vehicle to tow with.

Good luck

You can get a Duramax in the fullsize Chevy van! You can even get a waranteed 4x4 Duramax van through Quigley conversions, they make some pretty neat 4x4 vans! I've got a Silverado Classic 07 with the Duramax, it is a kick butt engine!:D
